Numbers are up and the crowds flocked to the PRCA Rodeo held during the Clark County Fair. They were excited to see some of the best cowboys in the country perform.

According to CC Fair Rodeo Director Doug Schwartz, Saturday night’s Rodeo was standing room only.

“The quality of the contestants and animals was exceptional this year,” Schwartz said. “We had the greatest percentage of NFR cowboys this year.”

Of course, having the best weather they could order didn’t hurt either.

Our small town rodeo has become part of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) and is included in the Wrangler Million Dollar Tour. For a cowboy to compete in the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) they must participate and place in 22 of these regular season rodeos.

Schwartz said that the Clark County Fair donates $10,000 towards each of the 8 events, plus the entry fees paid by the contestants makes up the purse given out to the winners.

The total payout for the event was $180,078 and there were 473 contestants that entered.

The All Around Cowboy at the Clark County Rodeo went to Russell Cardoza who received $1,856 for being a top qualifier in team roping, steer wrestling and tie-down roping.

Steven Peebles collected $5,140 for his 88 point ride in Bareback Riding on the horse Gypsy Soul.

A tie took place in the Saddle Bronc Riding between Cort Scheer on the horse Sign Language and Wade Sundell on Holy Hoppin Hell with 84 points, both riders receiving $3,712.

Blaine Jones took first with his quick Steer Wrestling time of 4.9 seconds collecting $1,658.

There was another tie in Team Roping, Tyler Water/Richard Durham and Zayne Dishion/Derrick Peterson won with a time of 4.3 seconds winning $1,770 each.

The first round of the Tie Down winner was Tuf Cooper with a time of 8.3 seconds receiving $2,023. The second round was won by Ryle Smith in 8.0 seconds and he won $2,023.

Sheena Robbins won the Barrel Racing with an average of 17.32 seconds winning $3,961.

The Bull Riding event winner went to Dylan Vick with 82 points receiving $4,620 on the bull named Wish This.

Once again the Clark County Rodeo invited NFR announcer Boyd Polhamus to come spend time with the crowd here in Logandale and Rodeo Clown of the Year Justin Rumford lightened the atmosphere throughout the 4 day rodeo.

The Clark County Fair and Rodeo adds a special event every year, they host the Sponsor Team Roping. This event adds local flavor to the rodeo.

“We do it as a way of recognizing the sponsors.” said Schwartz.

A minimum of $2,500 donation is what it takes to become a sponsor. The sponsor can then pick a team. Different teams compete against each other Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. On Sunday the top 4 teams come back to compete for the title. The winner of the Sponsor Team Roping receives new spurs as well as the sponsor for the team.

On Thursday the sponsor teams that competed were Kelly Christensen and Cole Christensen sponsored by Triton Security. Chapman Dodge sponsored Jordan Taylor and Richie Griffith. Reese Hoy and Gary Pratt roped for Simplot Silica Sand Products. Rilee Christensen and Troy Christensen were sponsored by Justin Boots. NV Energy sponsored Brock Limburg and Casey Thomas.

Friday’s sponsor team ropers consisted of Brad and Summer Alexander sponsored by Boyd Gaming, Weston Adams and Chet Pulsipher for Western States Contracting, Inc., Michael Nelson and Mica Leatham for America First Credit Union, Mike Nelson and Ty Nelson for Commissioner Tom Collins, Sherri Steele and Robert Steele for Americans for Prosperity, Lacey Steele and Daniel Eary for Polaris World. And finally Andy Shakespear and Henry Shakespear roped for Coors-Wirtz Beverage Nevada.

Saturday’s sponsor teams were; Tex Carter and Trevor Carter for Anderson Dairy, Mo and Justin Bracken for Animal Medical Hospital, Tami and Jaylee Blassingame for Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA,) Teresa Bowen and Kyle Millinton for South Point Hotel & Casino, Wes and Sid Williams for Star Nursery, and Garrett Jepson and Clay Combs for Las Vegas Events.

This year’s winner of the Sponsor Team Roping was Mike and Ty Nelson for Commissioner Tom Collins.

  1. Nevada state senator Mark Manendo used hate filled lies in his attacks on Charreada, the National sport of Mexico. He said that most of the animals used die and that the Charros treat animals like garbage. Even his good friend Eric Mills had to come to Manendo’s defense, saying Manendo had been “misled” and that the dangers of Charreada have been exaggerated. Still you have to wonder about someone who can be so easily duped by groups like the HSUS, which supports Manendo. The HSUS is not your local animal shelter. It is a 150 million dollar corporation that spends almost every dime it gets on obscene salaries and filing lawsuits. It raises money by showing ads of cute dogs and cats, but it spends less then 1 cent on the dollar to feed and shelter cats and dogs. More and more members of congress are questioning the tax free status of the HSUS because of its political activities. The HSUS IS AGANIST RODEO and FOR A VEGETARIAN LIFE STYLE. The HSUS has been accused of paying employees to abuse animals and videoing the abuse as proof that meat production should be stopped. The HSUS wants to change our eating habits and standard of living by outlawing farming methods which are used on family farms. The HSUS is dangerous and you should not support it or its lackeys like Manendo.
