Kids Get Ready For Science-Based Summer Fun At The Library

By BRYNNE MCMURRAY

Fizz…Boom…Read! Moapa Valley Library’s Summer Reading Program is ready to explode!

This year’s theme is science-based. So, kids be prepared for plenty of experiments, messiness, learning, and fun! Program sign-ups begin on June 2 and continue through August 2, with weekly programs, storytimes, activities, and fun.

Look for the much anticipated return of perennial favorite Tony Daniels and his “Reading is Magic” magic show, the tunes and moves of DJ Tony as well as a special Club Read Puppet Show given by guest librarians.

Another special program coming to the nearby Moapa Town Library is the Fratello Marionettes with their presentation of Carnival of the Animals.

Summer reading is a great way to keep kids progressing with their reading skills through the summer.

Local mom and regular library program attendee Maile Montierth said, “My kids live for the summer reading program at the library and it keeps them focused on what they need to get done for the summer.”

Regularly scheduled storytimes will include activities like making homemade ice cream, balloon animals, bubbles, and many exciting science experiments brought to you by mad scientists, Dr. Mustache and Professor Friedrich, back-by-popular-demand.

The Club Read program consists of a reading log where kids track how many books they read over the summer. When they reach 20 books, their logs are redeemable for an age appropriate prize. This year’s Club Read prizes include book bags, medals, and earbuds.

In addition to program prizes, kids can also earn Book Bucks to redeem for free books. You can pick up a copy of the reading logs and the program schedules at the front desk of the library. Call the Overton branch at 702-397-2690 or the Moapa Town branch at 702-864-2438 for more information. All programs are free of charge and summer reading programs are tailored for all ages.
