The Lake Mead Baptist Church put together five days of Vacation Bible School last week. This year’s theme was “Agency D3.” Pastor Scott Adams explained that D3 stood for: “Discover the evidence about Jesus Christ, decide what to do with it, and defend what you believe.” Children pretended to be special agents and were given kits with tools to help them in their discovery.

Everyone met together at the beginning of each day for instruction, scripture memorization, and singing. Then they all attended 40 minutes of bible study before breaking into three smaller groups.

Each of the smaller groups had a teacher assigned to them. Christina Tobler took the kindergartners and first graders. Beverly Bradley had the second and third graders. And Mary Beth Adams was responsible for the fourth through sixth graders.

Then they rotated through three classes and a snack break. Barbara Trombley taught Music. Walter White tackled the importance of Missions. Crystal Scatterday was in charge of Arts and Crafts, and Kathy Goldsberry provided snacks. There were also numerous volunteers who helped.

After finishing their rotations, everyone met together in the chapel. Pastor Adams asked them questions. They sang songs and prayed.

The theme verse they wanted the kids to memorize during the week was 1 Peter 3:15, taken from the Holman CSB. It reads, “but set apart the Messiah as Lord in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you.”

Sharon Larson, who helped with registration, said, “It’s been a wonderful week. The kids have been really attentive. There haven’t been any problems. They’re a great group of kids.”

Pastor Adams said that he’s been holding Vacation Bible School for the six years that he’s been here, but it’s been part of summer in this valley for about 25 years now. Adams and Larsen both remember attending it as children in the communities they grew up in. Adams said, “It’s changed a lot since then, especially the music.” But he emphasized that the scriptures and ideals being taught are the same.
