Logandale Quick Care To Close Temporarily

By VERNON ROBISON

Moapa Valley Progress

The Mesa View Medical Group announced last week that its Logandale Quick Care clinic will be temporarily closing at the end of this week. According to Mesa View Hospital CEO Patty Holden, the clinic staff will continue to see patients through Friday, June 27. The Quick Care will then be closed beginning on Saturday, June 28.

Holden explained that the temporary closure was being done due to a lack of provider availability at the clinic.

“In the past month and a half we have had two Physician Assistants that staff our clinics leave us to work elsewhere,” Holden said. “Both of those were unanticipated changes and under relatively short notice.”

The Quick Care is staffed by Physician Assistants who care for patients presenting with routine illnesses and minor injuries. More severe cases are referred to physicians in the Mesa View Medical Group in Mesquite.

The Quick Care, which had originally been opened 12-hour days from Monday through Saturday, reduced its hours of operation in April when one of the facility’s two Physician Assistants left for personal reasons. Since that time, the clinic has been operating with one full time Physician Assistant and a part time Nurse Practitioner to fill the gaps, Holden said. So for the past two months, the clinic has only been operating on 10-hour days, Monday through Friday.

But last week, one of the Physician Assistants in the Mesquite Quick Care gave notice that he had found employment elsewhere. This made it necessary to pull the Physicians Assistant from the Logandale Clinic back to the Mesquite facility to keep it running. That made it necessary to close the Logandale quick care facility for a time, Holden said.

Holden added that she has been working since April, since the previous resignation, interviewing candidates to restaff the quick care facilities. But it has taken time to find quality candidates that are willing to relocate to the Mesquite/Moapa Valley region for work, she said.

“We have several candidates in the queue that we have interviewed and have expressed interest,” Holden said. “But they are not expected to finish up their certification programs until around the end of the summer; in the late August or September timeframe.”

Holden said that if all goes well, she expects to have the Logandale Quick Care staffed and open again by around mid- to late-September.

“We know how important that facility is to the community over there,” Holden said. “We understand how important that access to health care is in Moapa Valley. So we are working diligently to recruit quality providers and get the clinic up and running again as soon as possible.”
