The second annual Dirty, Nasty Mud Race is coming to Logandale this Saturday!

This weekend, on Saturday, September 27, the second annual Dirty Nasty Mud Race returns to Logandale. Mud racers from throughout the region will be coming to town, ready to test their trucks in the a tough mud bog which will be set up just west of the baseball fields at the Logandale Sports Complex.

The festivities will kick off at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday with an automotive swap meet. This is a chance to bring your cars, parts and anything automotive to sell for cash or trade for something even better.
This year’s event will be adding a few new activities.

At 11:00 am there will be a tractor tire pull. Participants can hook their vehicles, including ATVs, up to big tractor tires and see how well they can pull them through the mud pits.

Later on, at around 1:30 p.m, another new event will take place. It’s a different kind of mud race as participants scramble through the mud pit on foot in a dash for cash. It will start with a youth division. Five different stakes will be placed at various spots in the mud pit; each one will have a five dollar bill posted to it. The kid who collects the most money wins.

After that, the adult division will get underway. This time the stakes will be raised to 20 dollar bills at each location. A maximum of 15 adults can enter the no-holds-barred foot race. A firetruck will be on hand after the foot races to rinse off all the runners.

Then the big event will begin. Racers from nine different classes will compete for prizes in the big mud race. All entries are welcome, including any locals who want to get their trucks muddy in some racing fun. There will be a pre-race driver’s meeting starting at 1:00 p.m. where all racers are required to attend. Then the races start at 2:00 p.m. From there, the fun is expected to go on for about four hours.

There will be plenty of vendors and food for spectators at the event. And, for area businesses, vendor spaces are still available. Call Lori Houston at 702-371-1372 for information on becoming a vendor at the event.

Spectator admission is $10 for adults, $8 for ages 7-12. Children 6 and under are free.
The Dirty Nasty Mud Race is done to benefit the Moapa Valley Volunteer Fire Stations. It also is meant to raise awareness of the Volunteer firefighters recruiting drive that is ongoing.  “It seems like our local stations are always running short of volunteer firefighters and emergency responders,” said event coordinator Larry Skaggs of Overton.

“This event is supposed to be a reminder for people who are interested in serving, that now is a good time to sign up.”
“It’s also a great opportunity to show support and say thank you to our volunteer fire departments,” Skaggs added. “That is especially appropriate in light of the recent flood and all that they did to help out the community. They really do deserve our support.”
