Slowly the cars wound their way through the rolling red hills to view the sunset as it highlighted the unique formations at The Valley of Fire State Park.

On Friday evening, October 17 the 15th Annual Chamber of Commerce Overton Car Show held a cruise in to the scenic state park nearby. The classic lines of the ’55 Chevy, 2013 Corvette Convertible, 2000 Corvette Convertible, Chevy Nova Custom Victorian flamed, 1933 Buick, 1934 Ford

Cabriolet and 2008 Roush 427R Mustang mirrored the uniqueness found in this area.
Soon the drivers headed back to town where they would visit the many businesses taking part in a Poker Run. At each stop, participants would draw a card putting together a Poker hand for prizes at the Car Show. Poker run winners were: First place with a Full House, Janice Christensen from Taylorsville, Utah; 2nd place to Jim Stokes from Overton with 2 Pairs – Ace High; and Jeff and Diane Rathbun from Alabama (currently working in Tooele, Utah) took third with 2 Pairs.

Early on Saturday, the Car Show got down to business. Vendors were there to tempt the attendees with their many crafts and food. There were old and new car parts, Toys 4 Tots, Jenn’s Custom Crafts and Design from St. George and Country Lynn’s Crafts and Gifts from Henderson as well as Holly’s Suckers from Overton to help keep up one’s energy.

As the viewer wandered through the many cars they were entertained by KCPX DJ Hackett from Salt Lake playing 50’s, 60’s and 70’s Real Oldies.

There were many amazing cars to view including: “The Whale” a 1969 Ultra Van, Class ‘A’ Motorhome; a 1933 Buick Victorian with a stunning hood ornament; a low rider ’55 Crown Victoria Ford plus the cars that took place in the previous evening’s outing.

But there was much more – a climbing wall and jump houses for the young; a Cutest Dog Contest (winners were: the biggest, Chubby an Australian Shepherd with his friend Ben Learned of Moapa; the Fluffiest was Bam Bam a Maltese Poodle who brought her friend Vickie Akers of Overton and the smallest winner was Ellie, A Shiatsu owned by Penny Vallone of Overton).

There was also a Beard Contest. Winners were 1st place to Tim Parham of Las Vegas with a multi-colored beard and Tim Marvin took 2nd place. Marvin is a new resident to Overton from Henderson.

A scarecrow decoration contest also was held which was won by a creepy green-faced farmer which can be viewed at Cappalappa Family Resource Center.

Something was missing though. Then I saw it. A wooden sign at the “4 on the Floor” vendor booth from Vegas – “Broken Cookies Don’t Have Calories.” We headed for the food vendors. First, an appetizer Hot Dog and then the main course of a taco from “Tacos Della Torre” of Las Vegas.

Then some water to wash it all down. Continuing to walk through the Auto Swap Meet section of used and new car and bike parts, took a moment to talk with the folks from Joyce’s Groom Room in Overton about their pet services and gifts. A celebration was in order when I found out the large bone sign seen walking around the Blvd. was actually Dylan Jones. Spotting another sign “Life is Short – Eat Dessert First” a Slush was in order to hit the spot.

Too soon the day was over and the driver’s headed to their cars to take another swing through The Valley of Fire.
