No One Asked Me But… (October 22, 2014)

By DR. LARRY MOSES

No one asked me but… It feels good to be vindicated. I have in a number of columns over the last few years indicated that I was of the belief that Saddam Hussein had a stockpile of chemical and biological weapons.

President George W. Bush used this as the excuse to take out Saddam after the attack on 9/11. Part of the Bush administration’s case against Saddam Hussein was the fact that he never accounted for the chemical weapons he had built up in the 1980’s with the help of his western allies as he was at war with Iran. While President Bush insisted these weapons existed, the United Nations inspection teams could find no traces of them.

The operative words here are “United Nations”. Investigators from this organization could not find their rear end if it wasn’t attached. All you need to know is that China and Iran are on the Human’s Right Committee of the United Nations.

I will not argue the wisdom of disposing of Saddam or any of the other Middle Eastern dictators. The efforts to overthrow the dictatorial governments of Libya, Iraq, Egypt and now Syria has done nothing to democratize these states; it has merely thrown them into political chaos.

While the dictators were without doubt bad guys, they did keep the “badder” guys in check. ISIS could not exist under Saddam; he would have ruthlessly destroyed them in their infancy. It is hard for Americans to understand but Middle Easterners raised under the dictatorial Sharia Law and living in third world conditions have no desire for, nor a grasp of, the ideals of democracy.

While the war in Iraq was going on, the scale of encounters with chemical and biological weapons were not shared with the public. Further, they were not discussed to a large degree among the military. However, with the rise of ISIS, it has become an issue as these terrorist now control the area where many of the weapons were discovered. Many of the chemical weapons were found around the Muthanna State Establishment, the center of

Iraq chemical production in the 1980’s. Since June, this compound has been held by ISIS, the most radical and violent jihadist group. The Iraq government indicated that at least 2500 chemical rockets remain buried in the area.

Why would the United States suppress the knowledge of these weapons? The New York Times article gave a number of reasons. In five of the six cases where American troops were injured disposing of these weapons, the weapons were designed in the United States, manufactured in Europe, and filled with chemical agents in Iraq by western companies. When presented with evidence of the weapons, the President’s senior advisor Karl

Rove replied it was best to “let sleeping dogs lie; we have lost that fight so better not to remind anyone of it.”

If this is true, one must again question the wisdom of Rove in his advice to the President. Remember he, with his white board, predicted a sweep to the Presidency for Mitt Romney. Even I got closer to the correct count, in favor of Obama, missing the actual count by six electoral votes.

Rick Santorum, a Republican Senator until 2006, stated that weapons of mass destruction began turning up as early as 2004 when chemical weapons were being openly sold in arms markets in Iraq. These included shells containing mustard gas and sarin. When he brought this to the attention of the White House, Karl Rove stated, “We don’t want to look back.”

Another White House official, not identified specifically, apparently stated that in 2004 when the White House attempted to get the media to write about the WMD they were told the public already had decided there were no WMD’s and there was little they could do to change their minds.

When the Pentagon was confronted about the weapons found, their answer was, “these are not the weapons we were looking for.” That is like saying we went looking for a den of rattlesnakes and could only find water moccasins; therefore there are no poisonous snakes to deal with.

Another explanation for not acknowledging the weapons find was that they did not want to tip off the Sunni insurgents of their location. However, the New York Times reported this week that some of the main areas control by ISIS had been used by Saddam to hide WMD’s.

Republican’s have taken a beating over this issue for the last eight years and with the lack of coverage of these discoveries by the mass media, this beating will probably continue to counter balance the failure of the Obama administration’s Middle East policy. I begin to wonder when the United

States will understand thawt there are no good guys in the Middle East. All you can hope for is the bad guy in control is not “baddest” guy out there.

No one asked me but…The Nevada Supreme Court ruled that the State’s implied consent law, which permits law enforcement officials to force a motorist to submit to a blood test to determine impairment without a warrant is unconstitutional.

The State court based their decision on the Fourth Amendment: “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, house, papers, and effects against unreasonable search and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched , and the persons or things to be seized.” This also violates the Fifth Amendment; “…nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself…” This may well cover breath tests as well.

It is time for the court to consider the random DUI stops. Where are the probable cause and the warrant to search the car and seize the individual for the time it takes to do so? While one can argue it makes the roads safer, it is still unconstitutional. It is the same argument used to deny freedom of speech and the right to own a gun. Violating the First, Second, Fourth, Fifth, and any other Amendment may be convenient but it is not legal.

Thought of the week… We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country.”
