MVHS Girls’ Soccer looked great last week in two matches; one against the Chaparral Cowboys and another against the Boulder City Eagles.
On Tuesday, October 21, Moapa traveled to Chaparral High School in Las Vegas.

During the first half of the Varsity game, Alexis Schraft and Bailey Bunker scored goals for Moapa. Tapanga Durham assisted Schraft, and Romina Parra assisted Bunker. Chaparral only scored one against Moapa’s goalie, Signe Berg, so Moapa claimed a 2-1 victory in the match.
Coach Lisa Cornwall said, “They’re working really hard to come together. They played like I knew they could.” Cornwall added that, “Signe, the goalie, did a really great job.”

Moapa’s JV team also won. Mariah Mendoza scored three goals, and Cameron Slight scored two. Chaparral’s offense didn’t get anything past Alec Begay, so the Pirates pulled off a 5-0 shutout.
Coach Dione Jackson said, “Both teams played well.”

On Thursday, the Pirates played Boulder City at MVHS.
Moapa’s JV team did a great job of keeping the ball on the offensive side of the field. In the first half, Cameron Slight scored the first two goals for Moapa. Robyn Foster assisted Slight with the second goal. Mariah Mendoza scored the third point with an assist from Karen De Luna. Cameron Slight scored the fourth point just after halftime. Robyn Foster scored the fifth goal, and Mariah Mendoza scored the sixth just before the game ended. The final score was 6-0 for Moapa.

Makayla Jackson got the Varsity game off to a great start for Moapa by scoring from an impressive distance just minutes after the initial kickoff. Alexis Schraft scored two points for the Pirates, and Bailey Bunker scored one. Boulder City only had one goal, so Moapa won the game, 4-1.
About Varsity, Coach Cornwall said, “On Thursday, they really played like a team. I’m proud of them. They’ve kept in there and seen it to the end of the season.”
