In the complex area of home mortgage, one local mortgage lender is taking the initiative to educate mortgage and real estate professionals on how to service local veterans through the VA Home Loan Program. iServe Residential Lending, a leading mortgage lender with a branch in Mesquite, will be sponsoring “The Power of VA Home Financing National Tour” at the Holiday Inn Express in Mesquite on November 12 from 10 am to 12 pm.
Local resident Shaun Talbot, who works as branch manager for the iServe Mesquite branch, said that the VA Home Loan Program is one of the most important benefits available through the Department of Veterans Affairs, he said. The benefit offers active duty, veterans, select reservists and members of the National Guard, an opportunity at home ownership.
“Unfortunately, the program is underutilized as approximately 8% of the people eligible for the benefit have taken advantage of the opportunity,” Talbot said.
Talbot points out that the program is often misunderstood or discouraged by many mortgage and real estate professionals. In addition, veterans themselves haven’t embraced the program due to previous experiences or a general misunderstanding of it, he said.
“With the combined lack of knowledge from recipients of the program and industry professionals themselves, the VA Home Loan Program doesn’t get the recognition it deserves,” Talbot said.
