Festival Of Trees To Be Held This Weekend

By WESLIE STRATTON

Moapa Valley Progress

christmastreefest1The Festival of Trees will kick start the holiday season in the Old Logandale School this weekend, Nov. 21-22. Decorated Christmas trees will be available for view along with entertainment on Friday from 3-7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“Anyone is welcome (to donate and decorate a tree),” event organizer Robin Maughan said.
Businesses, organizations and families alike participate by donating a decorated tree that will then be sold through silent auction at the event, Maughan explained.

“All the proceeds go to OLSHACS,” she said, referring to the Old Logandale Historical and Cultural Society that works hard to continue the operation of the Old Logandale School facility.

Maughan said that close to 30 trees were donated last year and that each one was purchased.
“The public has been very generous and it really helps with our operating costs throughout the year,” she said.

Each school in the valley has donated a tree along with the Lost City Museum, the MV Art Guild and other various businesses and organizations. Maughan said that those unable to donate a tree have contributed by donating other items such as wreaths and gift baskets. Lin’s has donated refreshments that will be available at the event.

Entertainment includes Elite Dancers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday followed by the Bowler Elementary Choir. On Saturday the Movin’ & Groovin Giggle Toes Dynamite Cheerleaders will perform at 10 a.m. followed by the middle school choir at 11 a.m., Desert Song Performers at noon and Senior Center Line Dancers at 2 p.m.

Carolers will sing throughout the festival to entertain those participating in the cake walk, other games and drawings with prizes donated by local restaurants.

Vendors such as Jamberry, Scentsy, home crafters and more will be set up and open for business as well.
