Partners In Conservation (PIC) has rescheduled its big National Public Lands Day Volunteer Event for this Saturday, November 22. Originally planned for September 27, the event was cancelled due to the second large storm and subsequent flooding to hit Moapa Valley in a month.

The cleanup will start at 8 am at the main trailhead of the Logandale Trails area. The morning will start off with donuts and juice providing immediate energy to jump start the day.

“Pirate Fans, have no fear,” said PIC Administrator Elise McAllister. “You can come volunteer for a couple of hours and still have oodles of time to get ready for the Big State Championship Game!”

Volunteers are needed to pick up trash at the main trailhead, ride the trails picking up trash, paint the restrooms, tidy up camping sites, and generally spruce up the place, McAllister said.

“The scenery is stunning and we want to take care of the place so that trash and such doesn’t detract from the natural beauty right next to our valley,” said McAllister. “Trash is a nasty thing—-once people stop cleaning up an area and trash starts to accumulate, for some reason, many others feel it is ‘OK’ to then toss their trash too. Keeping the area clean helps to stop that mindset and we want visitors to the area to appreciate the natural, as well as the human-maintained beauty of the trails system.”

T-shirts and door prizes, plus goodie bags will be given to all volunteers, plus a great lunch will be cooked by the Moapa Valley Rotary Club who have generously donated their time, once again, to participating in valley activities.

“And we’ll serve lunch in plenty of time for folks to enjoy the rest of a lovely fall Saturday,” McAllister promised. “If folks aren’t heading into the Big Game, spend the afternoon exploring and enjoying Logandale Trails. After all, few communities are blessed with the natural beauty and fun surroundings that Moapa Valley has in abundance!”
