The Moapa Valley High School Varsity Girl’s Basketball team are currently in 5th place, a game behind Desert Pines to whom they lost on Friday night at home 48-39.
Three Jaguars scored in double figures. See’Airrah Evans-Collins scored 14 points as she dominated the middle grabbing 17 rebounds to lead the Jaguars. Chrystian Myles scored 16. And Jordan Bailey added 10 points.
The Jags held a 29-19 lead over the Pirates at halftime.
It started well enough for the Pirates when they trailed by a single point to start the game 12-11. But Desert Pines used their speed to create some easy points to take their 10 point lead by the half. Myles stole the ball 8 times in the game for the Jaguars.
The Pirates heated up in the 3rd quarter making some basket and capitalizing on some Jaguar mistakes. The Pirates went on a 17-10 run to cut the lead to 3 to start off the 4th quarter.
Moapa Valley actually had a chance to beat Desert Pines but the girls couldn’t score. Shots weren’t falling as the Jaguars made enough to maintain their lead and build on it.
Summer Evans scored 11 and DaniElle Russo scored 10 for the Pirates.
Earlier in the week, on Wednesday night, the Lady Pirates went up against Sunrise Mountain. Moapa was trailing by 12 points 36-24 to start the 4th quarter. But the Pirates came back in the last quarter, beating the Miners 49-47.
Summer Evans scored the game winning layup with 7 seconds remaining to give the Pirates the lead and the win. Evans finished with a game-leading 15 points most of which came in the final quarter.
Makayla Jackson scored 10 points.
After the score was tied at 10’s in the 1st quarter, Sunrise Mountain took a 9-point lead into the locker room at half time holding the Pirates to just a single basket in the second quarter for a 21-12 lead.
The Pirates scored 12 in the 3rd quarter but still lost ground to the Miners who put up 15.
But the Pirates appeared to not miss anything in the 4th quarter. Their shots fell through the hoop tying the score until Evan’s game winner.
Sunrise Mountain lost the game at the free throw line missing 26 shots on 12-38 shooting. Moapa Valley missed 13 at 16-29.
It was a great win for the Pirates who moved ahead in the standings over the Miners due to the win.
The Pirates will host Virgin Valley on Friday night.

i think sunrise mtn girls should work more on their free throws because those are uncontested shots so they have to drop
