Pirates Compete In Lewis Invitational

The Richard Lewis Invitational Track and Field meet was held at Moapa Valley High School on Friday. Gathering at the meet were schools from the Division I, IA, III and IV and from throughout the state.
When all was said and run, Arbor View High School from Las Vegas took home the hardware for first place in both the boys and girls overall competitions.

The Arbor View boys’s team scored 182 points. Las Vegas High School placed second with 156 points and Valley High School finishing third with 124 points.Moapa Valley finished fifth in the meet with 45 team points, behind Sunrise Mountain with 88 and ahead of Virgin Valley with 29.

On the girls side Arbor View scored 266 points with Sunrise Mountain placing second with 89 points, one point ahead of Las Vegas. Valley scored 80 points for fourth. Moapa Valley finished sixth with 39 points, behind Virgin Valley’s 61 and just ahead of Calvary Chapel’s 32.

The Moapa Valley boys’ 4X800 relay team placed second with a time of 8:56.27 behind Sunrise Mountain at 8:50.33. That team consisted of Jay Mortensen, Nate Cox, Maximo Rubio and Nathaniel Brill.

Caleb Witsken set a meet record in the pole vault with a height of 14 feet 1 inch to win the competition.
On the girls side Natalie Mills finished fourth in the 300m hurdles. The freshman had a time of 51.86.

The 4X400 team finished fourth with a time of 4:38.06. Members of the team were Natalie Mills, Singe Berg, Summer Omer, and Alexis Schraft.
The 4X800 team finished third with a time of 11:42.68. The members of that team were Singe Berg, Hailee Heiselbetz, Romina Parra and Matilda Thompson.
Rachle Lee finished third in the pole vault with a height of 7 feet.

The Pirates will travel to Spring Valley for a mid-week meet then host the Grant Bushman invitational on Friday at Jeff Keel field and stadium. The field events start at 2:30 PM with the running events starting at 3:00 pm.
