The Moapa Valley Independence Day Committee is holding a photo contest this year. And the residents of the community are invited to judge who will be the winner.

Independence Day Committee chairwoman Lori Houston explained that the committee was looking for an image that could be used on this year’s fliers and posters. They had the idea of opening it up to members of the community to submit images to be considered.
“We came up with a great theme for the celebration this year,” Houston said. “And we feel like it will inspire people to enter their community-centered photos.”

This year’s theme is “The Spirit of Hometown Patriotism.” Anyone in the community is invited to submit photos that have something to do with that theme, Houston said.
The competition is going to be held on the social networking site Facebook. A Moapa Valley Independence Day Photo Contest event will be set up on the Moapa Valley PROGRESS Facebook page.

Anyone can post his/her photo entries directly to that event. This is the fastest way to enter.
But those who do not use Facebook, or don’t have access to the internet, can still enter their photos.

Photo prints can be brought to Houston at the McKesson Realty office in Overton at 280 N. Moapa Valley Blvd Suite C. Photo prints will be immediately scanned when submitted and returned to their owners. Then the scanned photos will be uploaded to the Facebook event page for judging.

By entering photos and/or posting them to Facebook, the contestant gives permission to the Independence Day Committee to use the image in their posters, fliers and other marketing materials. Full photo credit will be given.

The winner of the contest will be determined by the general public on Facebook. Local residents can view each of the photo entries on the PROGRESS Facebook page and click “like” on their favorite ones.

The photo that receives the most likes by the contests May 20, 2015 deadline will be the winner.
So get your favorite “Spirit of Hometown Patriotism” photos together and submit them now on the Moapa Valley Independence Day Photo Contest Event. Then check out all the entries on the page and “like” your favorite ones. You have until May 20.

Houston said that the next meeting of the Independence Day Committee will be taking place on Thursday, May 7 at the Lin’s Marketplace conference room. Any members of the community interested in being involved with planning or volunteering to help may attend.
