A valley-wide free yard sale is slated to take place on August 14-15 at the Old Logandale School. Community members are encouraged to make donations to the sale and to come see what they can find.
Organized by Rebecca Muhlestein, the event will require one school item for entry to be donated to Cappalappa Family Resource Center.
“I just decided to do this valley-wide free yard sale,” Muhlestein said. “My son mentioned the free yard sales that used to be at the Fine Arts building before and I just decided to do it.”
She said that the yard sale being only for those who are in dire need is a misconception.
“It’s open for everyone,” she said. “Everyone can come and take what you want.”
For items not taken, a Deseret Industries trailer will be available to accept leftover donations, Muhlestein said.
Those interested in donating to the yard sale are encouraged to take items to the Old Logandale School between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on August 14. Shopping will be available from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. that same day and again on August 15 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
After that, volunteers will be needed to help clean up, Muhlstein said.
“A lot of hands make light work,” she said. “We need helpers to bring stuff to donate and to help lay out stuff for display. Come anytime!”
Muhlstein said that she is in need of upwards to 100 volunteers. Those interested may contact her by calling (702) 377-9215.
While the event is nondenominational, fliers have been placed in many local religious facilities to spread the word. Muhlestein said it could also serve as a volunteer opportunity for scouts and other groups in need of service hours.
