During a Moapa Valley Town Advisory Board regular meeting July 15, retiring Moapa Valley Road Maintenance Supervisor Clint Young was presented with a proclamation. Young has recently retired after a long career with Clark County Public Works.

“I can tell you as a liaison dealing with issues all over District B, which is very, very large, you get questions and concerns and people screaming and hollering and it just never happens up here in regard to road maintenance,” town liaison Janice Ridondo said to Young. “And taking care of issues as they happen, you’ve been so wonderful and so helpful and I’m going to miss you terribly.”

She said that Young’s replacement has big shoes to fill.
“On behalf of the Clark County Commission I’m giving you this proclamation thanking you for your years of service,” Ridondo said. “Quite clearly you are one of a kind and we are not going to be able to replace you.”

She wished Young a wonderful, long retirement enjoying life with his kids and grandkids.
Young thanked Ridondo for the proclamation and kind words.
“This is more than I could imagine,” he said. “I wouldn’t be up here without my management, Victoria, you (Ridondo) and my crew.”
Ridondo said that Young’s crew is loved but that it is his leadership that made them as good as they are.

MVTAB Chair Mike Otero said that Young became vitally important to the community after the Sept. 2014 flood. He added that Sgt. Empey was in command with him the evening of the flood and that he wanted to pass along his thanks for everything that Young did for the community as well.
“We wanted to give you a certificate of appreciation from the rural fire stations, all the rural areas, that you helped cover,” Otero said. “So on behalf of the rural division thank you for everything you’ve done for us.”

Otero also passed along well wishes from Clark County Fire Chief Gregory Cassell along with a challenge coin from the fire department.
“Which we really only give out to the fire department,” Otero said of the coin. “He (Cassell) wanted to pass along his best to you and his well wishes for a long, healthy retirement and he said, ‘Have a blast’.”

Ridondo wrapped things up by describing Young’s work with the public.
“You go into public service because you want to serve the public and some people are OK at it, some people aren’t good at it at all and then some people are really, really good at it; and Clint is one of those people,” she said. “So please know that so many people just love you. Public service is a lot of work and you did it effortlessly.”
