The 4-H in Moapa Valley held a series of community events this week in an effort to get everyone involved in the organization. Local 4-H coordinator Lacey Tom not only organized science days, and a 4-H community dance, but she also hosted a trap shoot in Overton wash.
“I visited the Lincoln County trap shoot and it inspired me to put one on,” Tom said.
As Tom was new to this particular event she said that the Lincoln County 4-H has been instrumental in mentoring her through the process. The turnout was small for the shoot on Saturday morning, but she doesn’t give up hope and would like to hold a trap shoot twice a year.
Tom had two stations set up for the trap shooters, each station had five different angles to shoot from. The shooters formed a line across the station and each took a turn taking a shot at the clay targets, each got 5 shots from 5 different angles, giving them 25 shots for the round.
The winner of the round received a prize. It was declared that a missed target included a non-visible hit, malfunction, or if the safety was still on.
There were many prizes available for the winners; they had a Eureka vacuum, frames made out of old ropes, a pair of lularoe leggings, a few frozen turkeys, a skinsational gift card, CAT hats, $5 gift card to Wesleys. All prizes were donated by generous businesses and people here in Moapa Valley.
Tom had help from friends and family to set up the shoot. Her husband Lukas Tom, and friends Shane Pulsipher and Nathan Witter helped set up the stations. The throwers were lent to the 4-H by Dick O’Dell and Lincoln County 4-H. Lacey’s son Rylan pressed the button releasing the targets on cue.
