If you love archery or got a new bow for Christmas that you are dying to try out, you have a shot at starting your new year off right. Moapa Valley Archery Club is sponsoring its annual 3D Archery Shoot on Saturday, January 2.
The shoot is open to anyone who has a bow or a recurve bow. Both kids and adults are encouraged to attend.

The shoot will take place at the Cleveland Ranch in Overton and registration will begin at 7am and run to 11 am. Shooters will be able to shoot right after they register. Registration fees are $20 per person or $50 for a family age 17 and under.
To get to the Cleveland Ranch, go go west on Cottonwood Ave. from Moapa Valley Blvd. Follow Cottonwood to the end of the street and then go straight across railroad tracks. Drive through the ranch to the pit past the large trees. That is where the shoot will be set up. Organizers say the route to the ranch will be well marked in green or orange ribbons from the end of Cottonwood on.

Club Leader Brett Gale says the course will be a lot of fun for everyone. “It will be a short course over small hills, brush, and clay cliffs with about 34 lifelike 3D targets that will be spaced along the course for some very realistic shots,” Gale said. “It will be fun for advanced shooters and beginners alike.”

There will also be a raffle with tickets being sold for $2 each or 10 for $10. Raffle prizes will be archery related and will include tannerite and other things. Snacks will be available for purchase at the event.

The Moapa Valley Archery Club was organized about three years ago by locals Brett Gale and Wayne Postma. Being avid archers themselves, they were searching for a way to help other local archers stay active and have fun while promoting the sport and recruiting youth. The club shoots at the fairgrounds in the Glen Hardy building for most of the year. They keep targets set up and club members are able to go whenever it is convenient for them to get in a little extra practice. Livestock use of the building takes precedence from January to April, although the club is able to still use the building until close to fair.

MV Archery Club is a nonprofit organization that is open to anyone who wants to join. Membership dues are charged at a yearly rate of $50 per person or $85 per family. Dues go towards offsetting insurance costs, permits, and replacement targets for the club.

The upcoming archery shoot is the club’s main fundraiser for the year. Club leaders expect members of clubs from St. George, Mesquite, and Vegas to come, as well as anyone and everyone local who wants to come give their course a shot.

The club wishes to thank local sponsors for the event, which including Alsum Insurance, Sugar’s Homeplate, Wheeler’s Electric, Northshore Inn, American Family Insurance, Inside Scoop, Napa Auto Parts, Simplot Silica, Hyrock, True Flight Feathers, TNT Archery from St. George, and the many club members that will be setting up and taking down the course.
MV Archery is also currently working with MVHS to start a girl’s archery program.

Anyone who with questions about archery, the high school program, MV Archery Club, the upcoming shoot, or where to get raffle tickets is invited to contact Brett Gale by phone at (702) 232-5133 or email at mvarcheryclub@gmail.com. The club also has a Facebook page under the name of mvarcheryclub.
