President Obama gave an outstanding speech on January 6, 2016 with the proper theatrics of timely pauses, facial expressions, speech pattern, tearing and appropriate gestures.
The speech was profound in the fact it listed the mass shootings on his watch, the accidental death of children by children, and the wrongful deaths in street shootings. I almost believed this new change in the gun law could and would reduce such shootings. What was said was true! But, what was not said was also true!
All the mass shootings on President Obama’s watch were with legally obtained guns from authorized suppliers by parents (ex. Connecticut shooter-mother), relatives, friends (ex. San Bernardino, CA-2 AK 47’s), or the killer(s) (ex. San Bernardino, CA-husband and wife hand guns). An Army officer used his Colt 45 semi auto service pistol. The new Obama law would have no effect on these or the mass shootings!
The accidental death of a child by a child rests not with the purchaser of the gun but the proper care and securement of the gun. The new Obama law does not address this problem!
The innocent deaths in random street shootings are committed by gangs, drug felons or other felons who obtain their weapon from black market suppliers and not authorized gun dealers. The new Obama law does not address this problem!
The people who purchase guns and those who have access to those guns may or may not be of sound mind. The soundness of one’s mind may change as a result of physical, emotional, illness and drug usage. The new Obama law does not address this problem!
The old gun law(s) which were there to prevent these senseless killings had no effect! The new Obama law, “the feel good law”, will have an equal results “none”! It will promote false hope as before and signify nothing.
I could be wrong but I don’t think so.
