MVHS Swimmers Compete At Regionals

The 2016 regional championship for Southern Nevada high school swim teams took place on Tuesday, May 10 and Friday, May 13. Ten swimmers from the Moapa Valley High School Swim team qualified for the competition.
Preliminary rounds began on Tuesday.

In the Girls 200 Yard Freestyle, Raffaella Kroplewski took 14th at 2:36.92, earning her a spot in the finals competition, where she finished 14th again with a time of 2:37.45. Alexis Sawyer placed 20th with a time of 2:48.01 and did not advance in the event.

In the Boys 200 Yard Freestyle, Nathaniel Thompson took 16th at 2:14.41. Thompson advanced to Friday’s finals competition, and there placed 14th at 2:13.77.
Zane Lamping finished 14th with a time of 2:57.10 in the Boys 200 Yard IM. Lamping advanced to the finals competition, and there took 13th at 2:59.97.
In the Girls 50 Yard Freestyle, Hannah Sheldon and Hannah Leavitt tied at 31.90, earning them 25th place. Placing first in the event was Boulder City’s Mandy Gebhart with a time of 25.35. Sheldon and Leavitt did not advance.

Chase LaCroix scored 27th in the Boys 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 28.03. In first place with a time of 23.60 was Faith Lutheran’s Brayden Guedry. La Croix did not advance in the event.
In the Girls 100 Yard Freestyle, Raffaella Kroplewski placed 15th at 1:07.60. She advanced to the finals competition and there took sixteenth with a time of 1:13.41. Hannah Sheldon came in 21st at 1:10.90 and Hannah Leavitt finished 32nd at 1:14.26. Sheldon and Leavitt did not advance.

Nathaniel Thompson and Zane Lamping took 18th at 58.43 and 36th at 1:07.39, respectively, in the Boys 100 Yard Freestyle. The first place swimmer in the event, Sierra Vista’s Haris Kurtagic, finished at 50.14. Thompson and Lamping did not advance in the event.
In the Boys 500 Yard Freestyle, Tyler Holmes took eighth with a time of 5:54.68. Holmes advanced to the finals competition and there placed eighth again at 5:50.36.

The relay team of Hannah Sheldon, Alexis Sawyer, Katie Hendrix, and Hatti Gordon took eighth in the Girls 200 Yard Freestyle Relay at 2:06.61. Boulder City’s relay team took first in the event with a time of 1:43.39.

In the Boys 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, the team of Tyler Holmes, Chase La Croix, Zane Lamping, and Nathaniel Thompson took tenth at 1:49.76. Boulder City’s contending relay team took first at 1:33.99.
