Beginning this week, the Development Services Building at the Overton Community Center will be open one day a month for local residents who need to submit building or zoning plans to Clark County staff.
County Building Department and Zoning staff will be available on the fourth Wednesday of every month beginning this week, July 27. The office will be open from 9 am to 2 pm with a one hour lunch in the middle.
On that day each month, the county will send out one building plan checker and one zoning plan checker to work in the Overton office.
“We hope that this will be just a start to building that service again in the community,” said Sam Palmer, Assistant Director of the Clark County Department of Building and Fire Prevention. “We will start with just one day and monitor things month by month to see if we need more than that.”
Palmer explained that the initial services at the location would be fairly basic. It will be ideal for people who are planning smaller projects like patio covers, carport additions, moving walls in their homes, room additions or other minor renovations.
Larger projects will most likely still have to be submitted at the office in Las Vegas, Palmer said.
“The more complex projects like a full blown home construction or commercial building will probably need more than what can be done on that one day per month,” Palmer said. “Those will still have to come into town, at least for now.”
Palmer explained that the local office, during the one office day per month, would also be able to accept payment for license fees by check or credit card. Cash would not be accepted initially until a local banking relationship could be developed to deposit those funds before the staff left Overton for the day.
That is also the reason why the office must be closed at 2 pm on these monthly staff visits, Palmer said. He explained that any cash or credit card payments must be returned back to Las Vegas to be processed before the end of the work day.
