Nathan Wharton
Nathaniel John Wharton, age 81, passed away Friday, March 17, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born June 4, 1935 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Carl Jasper and LaVeda McClurg Wharton. On July 23, 1955 he married Judy Kay Williams in Malad, Idaho. She died May 25, 1993. On April 23, 1994 he married Sally Ann Peterson in Elko, Nevada. She preceded him in death on February 23, 2015.
Nate grew up in Tremonton, Utah, Marsh Valley, Idaho, and South Ogden, Utah. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked as an electronics engineer on the solid rocket boosters at the Thiokol Chemical Corporation. He lived in San Diego, California for a time, and later owned and operated the Fish Heaven General Store at Bear Lake in Idaho. He began snow birding in Overton, Nevada in the 80’s. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, four-wheeling, and RV traveling.
Survivors include his sweetheart Suzanne “Sue” Caffrey McMahill of Logandale, NV; two children: Craig (Theresa) of Pocatello, ID and Michael of Arco, ID; four step-children: Gwendolyn (Mike) Mackessy of Halsey, OR, Jim (Betty) Stout of Merced, CA, Clint McMahill of Overton, NV and Rebecca (Dan) Rash of Dayton, NV; 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, La Veda; son, Denny and grandson, Jory.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at the Fun N Sun clubhouse in Overton, Nevada.
