Lady Pirates Finish Pre-season On Winning Streak

The Moapa Valley softball team finished 3-0 last week as they concluded the preseason with a 6-8 overall record heading into this week and the league regular season.
Last week the Pirates travelled to Western and came home an 11-8 winner over the Warriors. The Pirates scored the first run in the first inning then Western tied the game in the bottom of the first with a run of their own.

The Pirates added 2 more runs in the top of the third for a 3-1 lead. An inning and a half later Western scored their second run cutting the Pirate lead to 4-2. Moapa Valley extended the lead to 5-2 in the top of the fifth.
After Western scored in the bottom of the fifth Moapa Valley scored five runs to bust the game open for a 10-3 lead.

Moapa Valley scored again in the top of the seventh then allowed 5 runs to Western and held on to win.
Kaitlyn Anderson hit an inside the park homerun for Moapa Valley while Lainey Cornwall and Kessa Evans each hit doubles helping the Pirates to the win.

Western had their own heroes as Makalita Moeaki and Ashley Rodriguez each hit homeruns for the Warriors. Ellyson Reynada was 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, a triple and two RBIs.
Emilie Barazza was the pitcher of record pitching seven innings allowing 14 hits striking out 8 and walking just one. Makalita Moeaki pitched all seven innings for Western allowing 14 hits and 11 earned runs.

On Wednesday the Pirates hosted the Cheyenne Desert Shields and came away with a 3-1 win. The Pirates used a double by Barazza who knocked in 2 RBIs. Moapa Valley had only 4 hits in the game. Cornwall scored the other RBI for the Pirates. Daesha Stasny pitched a five hitter for the Pirates she struck out 3 and walked 2.
Cheyenne scored their only run in the top of the sixth.

Moapa Valley travelled to Alamo on Thursday where they played Pahranagat Valley and won their third game of the week 14-3. The Panthers had beaten Moapa earlier this season in Mesquite during the Sherm Bennett tournament, 2-1. But last week the Pirates took out their vengeance with two 5 run innings; the first in the third and the second in the seventh inning; after the Pirates held a 9-lead.

Cornwall was three for three in stolen bases as the Pirates finished six for six in thievery. Barazza was 5-5 from the plate with 4 RBI’s. Cornwall was 3-5 with a double and 4 RBI’s and Stastny was 2-5 with a triple and 4 RBI’s. The Pirates pounded out 17 hits total in the game.

Stastny pitched a four hitter with 3 strike outs and 2 walks. The Pirates will host Sunrise Mountain and Chaparral on Thursday and Friday this week.
