MVHS Swimmers Compete against Chaparral

The Moapa Valley High School Swim Team competed against Chaparral at Heritage Park last Saturday.
The team of Samuel Jolley, Chase LaCroix, Nathaniel Thompson, and Tyler Holmes started off the meet in the Men 200 Yard Medley Relay. They took second place with a time of 2:09.20.

In the Women 200 Yard Freestyle, Alexis Sawyer placed first at 2:39.42. Finishing in second place was Jaci Holmes with a time of 2:42.81, a 16.88 second improvement from her previous race. Hannah Leavitt placed third at 2:46.98.

Isaac Bradshaw improved his time by 18.56 seconds when he took third place in the Men 200 Yard Freestyle at 2:51.94.

In the Men 200 Yard Individual Medley, Zane Lamping ended his race at 2:54.56, placing second.
Luise Fisher finished second in the Women 50 Yard Freestyle at 37.31. Payten Peluaga took third at 39.49, a 7.20 second improvement for the freshman swimmer. Ida Velthoven placed fifth at 45.13, and Gabrielle Shiozawa finished off the race for the Pirates in seventh place at 52.84.

In the Men 50 Yard Freestyle, Kasen Kolhoss and Mitchell Lyon led close races, finishing at 30.59 and 30.89, respectively. Spencer Raban shaved 11.24 seconds off of his personal best when he finished the race at 43.41.

Abbie Leavitt swam the Women 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:20.44, followed by Emma Walker at 1:23.44. At 1:25.00, Michelle Duong ended her race. Hailee Heiselbetz finished off the event at 1:26.22.
Nathaniel Thompson placed first in the Men 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 55.92. Mitchell Lyon improved his time by 16.27 seconds when he finished the race at 1:10.37, and Milo Farnsworth improved by 12.89 with his time of 1:11.00.

In the Men 500 Yard Freestyle, Tyler Holmes placed first at 6:07.45.
The team of Alexis Sawyer, Hannah Leavitt, Abbie Leavitt, and Jaci Holmes finished first in the Women 200 Yard Freestyle Relay at 2:12.15. Abby Rose, Marina Mortensen, Sedona Thomas, and Emma Walker placed second at 2:29.62. In third place with a time of 2:33.81 was the team of Brylee Watkins, Hailee Heiselbetz, Ida Velthoven, and Michelle Duong. Payten Peluaga, Luise Fisher, Gabrielle Shiozawa, and Camille Hardy finished off the race in fifth place at 3:00.87.

In the Men 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, the team of Tyler Holmes, Chase LaCroix, Samuel Jolley, and Nathaniel Thompson took second place with their time of 1:46.15. Isaac Bradshaw, Kasen Kolhoss, Spencer Raban, and Mitchell Lyon placed fourth at 2:17.28.
Samuel Jolley placed third in the Men 100 Yard Backstroke at 1:27.28.

Camille Hardy took first place in the Women 100 Yard Breaststroke with her time of 1:40.23, improving her time by 14.81 seconds. Marina Mortensen shaved 22.82 seconds off of her previous race with her time of 1:48.63, placing third in the event.

In the Men 100 Yard Breaststroke, Chase LaCroix finished second with a time of 1:22.07. Zane Lamping took third at 1:27.75.
The team of Alexis Sawyer, Hannah Leavitt, Abbie Leavitt, and Jaci Holmes took first in the Women 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. They finished the race at 5:13.94. Abby Rose, Marina Mortensen, Sedona Thomas, and Emma Walker ended their race at 5:43.27, placing third. With a time of 5:57.85, Brylee Watkins, Hailee Heiselbetz, Ida Velthoven, and Michelle Duong took fourth. Payten Peluaga, Luise Fisher, Gabrielle Shiozawa, and Camille Hardy finished in fifth place at 6:47.09.

In the Men 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, the team of Tyler Holmes, Chase LaCroix, Samuel Jolley, and Nathaniel Thompson took first at 4:06. Finishing in second place, with a time of 4:42.88, was the team of Isaac Bradshaw, Mitchell Lyon, Milo Farnsworth, and Zane Lamping.
Despite strong performances by the MVHS swimmers, both teams fell to Chaparral. The boys lost by 33 points, while the girls were only 19 points away from victory.
“It is so exciting to be part of a team that is so supportive of one another,” commented Pirate swimmer Jaci Holmes, a freshman. “It really pushes me to do my best so I can contribute to my team. I can’t wait to see where Coach Thompson takes us this season.”

The MVHS swimmers will compete against Sunrise Mountain this Saturday at the Pavilion Center Pool.
