Pirate Swimmers Compete With Rancho

The Moapa Valley High School Swim Team returned to the Henderson Multigenerational Aquatic Complex on Saturday to compete against Rancho.

The team of Leontine Adler, Camille Hardy, Jaci Holmes, and Hailee Heiselbetz started out the event with the Women 200 Yard Medley Relay. The Pirate girls had never before competed in the event, which meant that tensions were high.
“I was so nervous because it was my first time swimming [the butterfly], and I was so scared I was going to let my team down,” said swimmer Jaci Holmes, a freshman at MVHS. “But it ended up alright, and we finished in a very good spot for our first time competing!”
The girls took second in the event at 2:29.60.

Next, Samuel Jolley, Chase LaCroix, Nathaniel Thompson, and Tyler Holmes competed in the Men 200 Yard Medley Relay, where they placed first at 2:05.34.

In the Women 200 Yard Freestyle, Alexis Sawyer placed third with a time of 2:37.16. Tyler Holmes placed first in the Men 200 Yard Freestyle at 2:09.92. Mitchell Lyon came in third at 2:36.96.
Jaci Holmes finished the Women 50 Yard Freestyle at 31.56, earning third place.
In the Men 50 Yard Freestyle, Kasen Kolhoss’s time of 29.38 earned him third place.

The Pirate girls swam well in the Women 100 Yard Freestyle, taking the top four spots in the event. Hailee Heiselbetz placed first at 1:18.08. Anna Stratton took second at 1:21.83. Michelle Duong’s time of 1:26.54 earned her third place. Finishing in fourth place at 1:31.05 was Sedona Thomas.
Nathaniel Thompson took first in the Men 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 56.12.

In the Women 200 Yard Relay, the team of Alexis Sawyer, Hannah Leavitt, Abbie Leavitt, and Jaci Holmes took first place at 2:09.37. Finishing second, with a time of 2:22.20, was the team of Leontine Adler, Hailee Heiselbetz, Kennedy Postma, and Macy Morgan.
Tyler Holmes, Chase LaCroix, Samuel Jolley, and Nathaniel Thompson placed first in the Men 200 Yard Relay at 1:44.69. Kasen Kolhoss, Milo Farnsworth, Spencer Raban, and Mitchell Lyon took third at 2:12.36.

MVHS swimmers fared well in the Women 100 Yard Backstroke, taking the first three spots in the event. Leontine Adler placed first at 1:28.26. In second place, with a time of 1:39.95, was Brylee Watkins. At 1:48.41, Macy Morgan finished in third place.
The Women 100 Yard Breaststroke was similarly successful, with Camille Hardy taking first place at 1:34.90, Kennedy Postma placing second at 1:40.28, and Marina Mortensen taking third with a time of 1:48.50.
Chase LaCroix took first place in the Men 100 Yard Breaststroke finishing at 1:16.67.

In the Women 400 Yard Relay, the team of Alexis Sawyer, Hannah Leavitt, Abbie Leavitt, and Jaci Holmes conquered yet again. They placed first in the event with a time of 5:05.48. Leontine Adler, Hailee Heiselbetz, Michelle Duong, and Macy Morgan took second place at 5:32.81.
Tyler Holmes, Chase LaCroix, Samuel Jolley, and Nathaniel Thompson took first once again in the Men 400 Yard Relay, finishing their race at 3:59.80. Kasen Kolhoss, Milo Farnsworth, Ryan McMurray, and Mitchell Lyon placed fourth at 5:02.85.

The Pirate girls were excited to take their first win of the season with a thrilling team score of 116-80. The Pirate boys suffered a loss to their Rancho competitors of 98-76.
The MVHS Swim Team will compete against Virgin Valley on Saturday, ending their preliminary season. Qualifying swimmers will then advance to the regional competition.
