It was a huge week for the Moapa Valley High School Softball team. The time had rolled around to play Boulder City, the current top seed in the Sunrise. In addition to that, the team was hosting rival Virgin Valley.
On Tuesday afternoon, the second seed Moapa Valley team made its trip to Boulder City where they hoped to avenge their shut out 16-0 loss which occured at home a few weeks ago.

In that first meeting, on April 4, the Eagles had built a 4-0 lead by the end of the second inning. They then exploded with 12 runs in the top of the fifth which ended the game at the end of the inning when the Pirates failed to score. The Pirates had four hits total in the game as the Eagle pitching had dominated Moapa Valley. Meanwhile Boulder City’s offence had pounded out 15 hits.

Would it be different for the Pirates this time around in Boulder City? Yes, it was; to some extent. First off, the game went seven innings this time. Also the Pirates struck out only six times instead of the eleven in the previous game against the same pitcher.
But the result was still a loss. This time the final score was 11-2.

Boulder City scored a single run in the first inning. Moapa Valley returned the favor in the top of the second with a run of their own for a 1-1 tie. Boulder City would score 4 runs in the bottom of the second then 3 more runs in the bottom of the third.

Boulder City would out-hit the Pirates 13-5. Moapa Valley could put the bat on the ball, it’s just that they hit the ball directly to the Eagles for put-outs. Meanwhile, Boulder City put the bat on the ball and found holes in the Pirate defense.

Marleena Mills provided the first power for the Eagles with 3 hits including a homerun and 5 RBI’s. Jordan Moorehead had 4 hits and a couple of RBI’s for the Eagles. Lily Osman hit a double in the victory.
Pitcher Bailey Bennett-Jordan pitched all seven innings for the Eagles finishing with 6 strikeouts, allowing 5 hits and walking no one.

Boulder City scored a run in the bottom of the fourth and the final 2 runs in the bottom of the fifth.
The Pirates would score for the last time in the top of the seventh. Sierra Harding had 2 hits for the Pirates with an RBI. Lainey Cornwall had a hit and scored an RBI also.

On Thursday, the Pirates hosted the Virgin Valley Bulldogs and came away with a 12-2 win. Moapa Valley scored in all four innings needed for the win.
In the bottom of the fourth the Pirates scored 5 runs for a 12-0 lead headed into the top of the fifth.
Moapa Valley pitcher Emily Barrazza allowed 6 hits in the game allowing Savanna Price a double, scoring the Bulldogs only runs in the top of the fifth.

Sierra Staheli, Kessa Evans and Kaitlyn Anderson each scored 2 RBI’s with Evans and Staheli each hitting doubles.
The Pirates started the game with 3 runs in the bottom of the first. They scored a single run in the second and 3 more runs in the third.

The Pirates had beaten the Bulldogs 20-9 a few weeks ago in Mesquite.
