Gary Abbott

Gary William Abbott, age 75, died Tuesday, July 25, 2017 in Hewitt, Minnesota. He was born October 31, 1941 in Las Vegas, Nevada to Harmon Deloy and Zelma Cooper Abbott. On June 20, 1964 he married Marion Corrine Thorsen in the St. George Utah Temple. They had six children. She preceded him in death on November 20, 2005. On August 17, 2006 he married Connie Button Kendall in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Gary grew up in Mesquite. Upon graduation, he entered the US Navy. He raised his family in Las Vegas where he worked as a Master Plumber. Gary loved the outdoors. He was a respected Scout leader and enjoyed teaching young men to enjoy many different activities, including cross country skiing, backpacking, canoeing, and his favorite, fishing. His brilliant mind was always busy inventing and improving. He loved people and always made others feel comfortable and welcome.

Survivors include his wife, Connie of Hewitt, MN; four sons and two daughters: William (Crystal) of IL, David (Kelly) of TX, Ronald of OR, Daniel of NV, Kimberly (Stacy) Adams of UT and April (Jeremy) Tripp of NV; 25 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; three step sons and three step daughters: Heidi (Robb) Oyster of MN, Holly (Mike) Webb of UT, Susan (Richard) Miller of TX, Kirk (Krista) O’Dell of MN, Justin (Lisa) Kendall of TN and Jonathan (Ana) Kendall of NV; 17 step grandchildren; 25 step great grandchildren; four brothers and one sister: Arlene Solomon of NV, Wesley (Elsie) of NV, Bruce (Sandy) of UT, James (Becky) of NV and Edward (Cindy) of NV. He was preceded in death by one great grandson, Garrett; brother, Ronald; sister, Janice, step brother, Robert and brother-in-law Craig Solomon.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Logandale LDS Hinckley Chapel, 1505 W. Hinckley Avenue, Logandale, NV. Visitation will be from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow in the Mesquite City Cemetery.
