The Moapa Valley High School Tennis program qualified a girl’s double team into the state tournament. Morgan Aikele and Lily Leavitt are the fourth seed from the south.
They had two byes to start the tournament before playing Desert Pines doubles team of Alvardo and Pierce beating them 6-0, 6-0. In the next round, they faced Paradiso and Indyg from the Meadows and beat them 6-1, 6-4.
With that win, Aikele and Leavitt advanced to the semi-finals where they were beaten by Strimling and Monroe from The Meadows.
This placed them into the consolation finals for third or fourth place. They played by Palacios and Arredondo and lost 6-3, 6-0 for fourth place and a trip to the state tournament this week.
They will face the top seed from the north, Abby Burns and Gabby Fisher from South Tahoe.
Also last week Averee Widdison and Aubrey Aikele won their first two matches in the regional tournament, then were beaten twice and eliminated.
Amber Ables and Courtney Zerkle won the first round match then were eliminated from the tournament with a loss.
Jurney Crawford won a first round match in the singles before losing in the second round and was eliminated.
Sara Udall also won a first round match then lost her second round match to be eliminated.
Benedicta Johannessen lost her first round match.
On the Boy’s side, the doubles team of Yadon Witsken and Grady Call won their first match then lost their second match and were eliminated.
Slade Graham and Gavin Hadley won their first round match and lost their second round match and were eliminated.
Jacob Leavitt and Kolby May lost their first round match.
In the singles tournament. Chase Hadley made the consolation final by winning four of his five matches. The first three he won and the last one he won.
Conner Batty won his first match then lost his second. Adam Smedley also won his first match then lost his second to be eliminated.
