Fishing The Overton Arm (December 6, 2017)

By LOREN BROOKS

It’s nice to start the month of December, out on the Lake.
On December 1, Roy and I finally got out on the Overton Arm for a day of trolling for stripers. Lots of good reports including pictures on Facebook, about fishing the Overton Arm.

The first fish we caught on Friday, was a catfish at Marker 18. The 2nd fish was a nice Crappie, near Sand Island. I was trolling with a Sebago using an anchovy for bait.
Roy caught the next fish trolling with an anchovy.

The technique for using anchovy for bait includes threading and pulling the anchovy by the tail. We were using leaded line. We attached some red yarn on the treble hook.
We fished until 1:20 pm, catching five Stripers, one catfish, and a nice crappie.

Lots of boats on the lake, including Stan & Pat; Doug & Ron; John & Gary; Tom & Chary; Bud &Walt, Rod & Allan, just to name a few from Overton.
They all reported catching more then 20 fish in their boats.

The fishing on Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving: all of the fisherman had a fantastic day, with doubles and triples. Some even ran out of bait.

The catches numbered well over 30 fish per boat. How’s that for a day on the lake?
It was my luck to be in Arizona during this “hey day” on the lake.

Its a 20 minute boat ride up to Sand Island on the Overton Arm. We were back at the Fun & Sun Trailer Park by 2:45 pm. We cleaned and fileted the fish in my carport. The striper were small but had fat filets.
