Fishing The Overton Arm (February 21, 2018)

By LOREN BROOKS

Valentines Day on February 14, kept a lot of anglers off the lake. If you were lucky and were invited to the annual Fun & Sun Valentine Party, you caught more than fish. You caught the sound of music by Rocky Watson and his wife, Patricia who performed during and after a big ice cream feed at the trailer park.

This was the 3rd annual Valentine concert, by Country & Western singer, Rocky Watson, who gave a fantastic performance. He played his guitar with his own added sound effects, including his wife Pat, who blows the train whistle in the Johnny Cash rendition of “Folsom Prison”.

Rocky has written and composed a number of western songs which has led him to sing in the “Grand Ol’ Opry”. He has performed with a number of well known County and Western singers. Rocky was born and raised in Pocatello, Idaho, and has been singing and performing since he was 14 years old. He has recorded a number of western songs with his most famous CD being “Performance”, which includes the song, “Cowboy” that runs chills up your spine as he hits those high notes.
I’m not sure how many anglers were in the audience, but it was a catch of a lifetime for those in attendance.

The rest of the week slipped by with a few raindrops and some wind that may have discouraged fishing on the Overton Arm.
Some reports flowed in about fishing being a little slow this past week. Mark took Susan, Rocky and another friend out Saturday, and caught eight.

Bryce took Overton resident, Frank Kimball, with Steve and Bill, trying to catch those big crappie that Frank was catching last week. They went along the shoreline of Stewart’s Point, with negative results. They did catch five stripers.
Tom and his grandson claimed it was slow going last Friday.

Roy Foster has been out three weeks in a row and each time they caught eight stripers. Roy said he was not about to come in off the lake without a fish. He and his friends stayed out there until Roy finally caught one fish.
Ron who was trolling with Roy and Don, said a big one got away Saturday, when it broke his line and took the lure with it.
Ken said it was slow onSaturday, catching 7 stripers plus a nice 1.5 pound Crappie which he gave to Susan.

I’ve been busy and have not heard from other anglers as to the catch of the day.
One thing for sure, I’m glad I caught that performance on Valentines Day. Keep those lines tight and keep a couple of dozen anchovies which seem to always work on the Overton Arm.
