Fishing The Overton Arm (February 28, 2018)

By LOREN BROOKS

Loren Brooks

Maybe we need to slow down, particularly at my age, and find more time to go fishing.
As previously reported, Judge Lanny Waite and Jeff Jones of Town & Country Auto Sales, had a big catch on the Overton Arm, on January 30. They caught 58 striper’s.

On Friday night, most of that big catch of striper’s wound up on the dinner table at an LDS Overton First Ward Fish Fry (FF).

Most of us anglers check the weather. If it’s raining or the wind is blowing Anglers give 2nd thoughts about going fishing. On Friday afternoon, February 23, it was raining, cold, and the wind was blowing. There weren’t a whole lot of boats on the lake.

But the weather didn’t keep people away from that fish fry. It was a big turn out with close to 80 people attending. There was not a seat left in the house.

I invited Lanny and his wife to the event but they had a schedule conflict. He did say he was going out Thursday and do some fishing. I said the wind is going to blow Thursday. He said he liked to go early and figured he would be off the lake before the wind came up. They caught five.

I also invited Jeff Jones and his wife. He said the fish was delicious. Jeff and friends were back out on the Overton Arm last week, and marked a lot of fish, but none weren’t interested.
Bud, Walt & Junior found a nice day on the lake and caught 20 Stripers.

Man … I was too busy to even think about going fishing. With a Fun & Sun “pot luck” Tuesday at noon, cooking the fish at 6:00 pm Friday, and cooking sourdough pancakes at 8:00 am Saturday morning, I was running out of gas.

Cal, Ron, Lavar, Dave, and I, cooked 240 pieces of fish on Friday night. Only 8 pieces were left over. That was cutting it close. I will detail the recipe in next weeks article for anyone interested.

Keep me posted on your catch when fishing the Overton Arm. Good fishing.
