Pirate Girls Shine In Mesquite Invitational

It was an awesome week for the Moapa Valley High School Girls Track and Field team. The Pirate track and field teams both travelled to Mesquite over the weekend and participated in the Bulldog Early Bird Invitational. The Moapa girls team won the invite by dominating the competition.

The Pirates had three girls finish first in their events and a second-place finish to go with it.
Senior Natalie Mills won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.48 and started the meet with a second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles.

Mariah Mendoza won the girls shot-put with a throw of 29-8. She finished second in the Discus in her first event of the day.
The outstanding performance of the day came when freshman Hanna Watson cleared 8-0 in the pole vault. She also placed second in the long jump.

Pirate freshman Faith Witter placed third place in the pole vault with a vault of 6-6.
The Pirate 4X800 girls relay team placed second with a time of 10:43.11. The Pirates also won the 4X400 with a time of 4:25.65. Virgin Valley placed third with a time of 4:50.05.
Moapa Valley placed second in the 4X200 relay with a time of 1:55.75. Virgin Valley finished first with a time of 1:53.97.

Virgin Valley also won the 1X400 relay with a time of 52.72. Moapa Valley placed second in the event with a time of 55.77.
Ashlyn Western placed third in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:40.16.

The Pirates won the girls meet with a score of 146.5 That was 25 points ahead of Virgin Valley. The host team scored 121.5 points to finish second in the invitational. White Pine High School placed third with a score of 119 points. Pine View, Utah placed fourth with 87 points. Boulder City placed fifth with 61 points.

The Moapa Boy’s team placed fourth in the invitational with 71.5 points. They finished behind Pine View who won the meet with 139 points. Desert Pines finished second with a 123-points, Virgin Valley finished fourth with 86 points.

Moapa’s boys finished second in the 4X800 relay with a time of 9:11.38. Desert Pines won the relay with a time of 8:43.82.
Pirate senior Josh Lee won the pole vault with a vault of 13’6”. Josh Leavitt placed second in the discus with a throw of 105’3”.
