MVHS Track Teams Host Meet, Take First

The Moapa Valley High School hosted its first track and field meet of the season on Wednesday. The Pirates hosted Desert Pines, Shadow Ridge and Sunrise Mountain in the weekday event. When it was finished, both Moapa teams had outscored their opponents

The boys team totalled a 92-point day. Shadow Ridge came in second with 79 points, Desert Pines scored 70 and Sunrise Mountain scored 16 points.
On the girls side, Moapa Valley scored 115 total points, Shadow Ridge scored 86.5 points, Sunrise Mountain had 38.5 points and Desert Pines finished with just 24 points.
Several of the girls team had top five individual performances.

Alexis Schraft finished third in the 200-meters with a time of 29.12, while Erika Baldwin finished fourth at 29.32.
Schraft also finished second in the 400 meters with a time of 1:04.06.
Ashlyn Western finished in second place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:33.55. Bailey Bunker finished fourth at 2:51.85.

Western also finished second in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:41.82. Shelby Olsen finished fourth in the race with a time of 6:27.65.
Andi Hillstead won the 3200-meter run with a time of 15:04.97. Laura Adams finished second at 15:42.80. Samantha Thompson finished third at 16:20.29.
Natalie Mills won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.94. Andrea Mogren finished fifth at 19.96.
Mills also won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.57.

The Moapa girls placed third in the 4X100 relay with a time of 55.95. But in the 4X200 relay the Pirates placed first with a time of 2:00.59. The team consisted of Alexis Schraft, Peyton Schraft, Hanna Williams and Natalie Mills.

Moapa Valley finished second in the 4X400 meter relay with a time of 4:31.81. The second team finished fourth with a time of 4:55.22.

In the 4X800 meter relay Pirate teams finished both first and second with times of 12:00.7 and 12:01.53. The first-place team was Bailey Bunker, Andi Hillstead, Samantha Thompson and Phylene Marquez.
Mariah Mendoza finished third in the shotput with a throw of 27-06. Mendoza also finished second in the discus with a throw of 88-01.50. Madyson Whitney finished third with a throw of 81-06.50 and Samantha Hoe finished fourth with a throw of 78-01.

Eden Whitmore finished second in the high jump with a leap of 4-02. Madalynn Frederick finished third at 4-00 and Shyanne Matheson finished fourth at 4-00.

Andrea Mogren won the long jump event with a leap of 14-04.75. Mogren also won the triple jump at 30-04.50. Hanna Watson finished second at 30-02.50 and Shyanne Matheson finished third at 27-11.
Hannah Watson won the pole vault by vaulting 8-00. Faith Witter placed fourth at 7-00. Andrea Mogren finished fifth with a vault of 7-00.
There were also some high performers on the boys side.

Josh Lee finished first in the pole vault with a vault of 13-00. Yadon Witsken finished third at 11-06. Dillon Clove finished fourth at 10-00 and William Uri finished fifth at 9-00.
In the triple jump Clove jumped 31-06.25, Witsken jumped 29-05.75 and Luke Hauver jumped 28-04.50 for third, fourth and fifth places respectively.

Tristan Lehman won the long jump with a leap of 18-07.75 while Josh Lee finished second at 18-05.25.
Lee also won the high jump clearing 5-04. Taylor Landini was second at 5-02. William Uri jumped 5-00 as well as Luke Hauver who finished fourth and fifth.
Jerrick Stastny finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:11.81. Grady Call finished fourth at 2:17.16.

It was freshman Preston Humes who placed third in the 1600 meters with a time of 4:56.03.
Moapa Valley had three in the top five of the 3200 meter race. They were led by Stastny who won the event with a time of 11:32.60. Bryton Dorsey finished third at 11:45.56 and Payne Marrow finished fifth at 12:15.25.

Hunter Davis placed third in the 110 meter hurdles with time of 21-38 and Garrett Clove finished fourth with a time of 21.41. Davis also finished third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.42.
The two 4X100 relays finished fourth and fifth with times of 46.75 and 51.47. Jonah Gifford, Lehman, Rolando Villarreal and Greg Morrissey were the fourth place team while Fox Soderquist, Garrett Clove, Henry Patino and Daniel Steely finished in fifth.

Moapa Valley also had two teams in the 4X200. They finished second and third. The second place team including Jonah Gifford, Lehman, Derek Reese and Morrissey got a time of 1:42.09. Soderquist, Clove, Patino and Sheely were the third place team at 1:47.82.
Moapa Valley was the only 4X400 team which included Gifford, Humes, Clove and Villarreal. They finished the race with a time of 4:15.60 by themselves.

The Pirates also had the only two teams in the 4X800 relay. Humes, Brian Dorsey, Call and Stastny ran with a time of 9:58.05. Evan Conger, Gabriel Leavitt, Panye Morrow and Robert Bradford came in at 10:37.67.

Jesse Robison finished third in the shotput with a throw of 36-04. Josh Cox finished fifth at 35-09.
Josh Leavitt finished second in the discus at 100-10.50.

On Friday, the Pirates travelled to a Arbor View to compete in the Arbor View invitational. The Pirate girls finished second in the meet behind host Arbor View.Moapa Valley scored 107 points to Arbor Views 116.

The Moapa boys finished fourth with 63 points. They trailed Arbor View who won the invitational at 168 points. Canyon Springs finished second with 106 points. Palo Verde finished third with 88 points.
On the girls side, Alexis Schraft finished fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:06.04.
Ashlyn Western won the 800 meters with a time of 2:36.72. Western place second in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:48.29.

Shelby Olsen placed fourth in the 3200 meters with a time of 13:23.40.
Natalie Mills finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.67. Mills also finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 52.03.
Moapa Valleys 4X200 meter relay team consisting of Erika Baldwin, Alexis Schraft, Hannah Williams and Mills finished third with a time of 1:54.56.

The 4X400 team of Baldwin, Western, Schraft and Mills finished third with a time of 4:40.79.
The 4X800 team including Schraft, Andi Hilstead, Olsen and Bailey Bunker won with a time of 11:19.31.
Mariah Mendoza finished second in the shotput at 29-07. Hanna Watson finished second in the pole vault with a vault of 8-00. Andrea Mogren finished third in the long jump with a jump of 14-06 and fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 28-08.

For the boys’ team, Jerrick Stastny finished fifth in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:04.48. Preston Humes placed fourth in the 3200 meters with a time of 11:19.69. Bryton Dorsey finished fifth with a time of 11:28.59.
Moapa Valleys 4X200 relay team placed fifth with a time of 1:37.55. The team consisted of Jonah Gifford, Tristan Lehman, Derek Reece and Greg Morrissey.

The 4X800 relay team, including Humes, Call, Dorsey and Stastny placed third with a time of 9:17.15.
Josh Lee ended the meet with a first place finish in the pole vault at 13-06. Dillon Clove finished third with a vault of 10-6 and Yadon Witsken finished third with a vault of 10-00.
