Last week the Moapa Valley High School Track and Field teams travelled into Las Vegas where they faced Eldorado, Boulder City, Chaparral and Laughlin.

Because the school district allows just one bus for the two MVHS Track teams, the Pirates pared things down and took with them a younger team last week. This gave the upper-class athletes a chance to rest for the week.

Moapa Valley has ninety-eight kids participating in track but cannot get approval for a second bus. CCSD transportation department seems to govern the athletic department on this matter. This obviously cuts down on student participation when it comes to the meet. The high school will now have to pay for a second bus on weekday meets out of its own budget. Frustrating to say the least.

In the Track meet, the Pirate girls team placed second, short-handed though they were, with 74.5 points. That was only one point more than Boulder City. Eldorado finished in first place with 129 points. Chaparral finished fourth with 57 points. Laughlin finished fifth with 34 points.
Natalie Mills finished second in the 200 meters while Kianna Paul finished fourth in the 1600 meters. Mills was first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.32 and first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.19.

The 4X100 meter relay team finished third as well as the 4X200 meter and 4X800 meter relay teams.
Mariah Mendoza finished first in the shotput and second in the discus. Freshman Kayla Walters finished third in the shotput while Bailey Bond finished fifth.

Andrea Mogren finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles, fifth in the long jump and fourth in the triple jump.

On the boy’s side, Moapa Valley finished third in the meet with 50.5 points. Boulder City won with 131.5 points while Eldorado finished second with 108 points.
Laughlin was fourth scoring 41 points and Chaparral was fifth with 39 points. Payne Marrow finished fourth in the 800 meters and won the 3200 meters with a time of 11:57.

The 4X100 relay finished fourth while the 4X200 relay finished third as well as the 4X800 relay.
Josh Leavitt won the Discus with a throw of 114-9 while Caleb Frankford finished second and Kellen Wallace finished fifth. Taylor Landini finished fourth in the high jump and Josh Lee finished third in the long Jump and won the pole Vault with a vault of 13-10.

Moapa Valley will have the week off for spring break before hosting the Richard Lewis Invitational a week from Friday
