Pirates Lose First League Game Of Season To BC

Last week the Pirates played three games with the final game the start of the league season. When the dust cleared the Pirates had finished with a win and two losses including a league loss against the defending state champion.

Boulder City opened Friday’s game with a run in the bottom of the first inning. They added a couple more runs in the bottom of the second for a 3-0 lead to start the third inning.

Moapa Valley tied the game in the top of the third with three runs of their own. Then the Pirates took a one-point lead in the fourth 4-3.

Boulder City tied the game in the bottom of the seventh. That’s where to score stayed until the top of the tenth.

Daxton Longman and Chase Hadley both singled scoring an RBI giving the Pirates a two-point 6-4 lead headed into the bottom of the tenth.

Travis Hungerford scored a runner from third on a ground out. Then Chafton Temple hit a two run double for the Eagles win.

The Eagles pounded out 14 hits including four in the bottom of the tenth. Temple finished with three RBI’s on three hits including a double.

Chase Guessman, Hunter Wrzesinksi and Daxton Longman finished with two hits apiece for the Pirates. Wrzesinksi had a double.

Coby Longman pitched nine innings allowing 10 hits and striking out 10. He walked three batters. Luke Bennett pitched two thirds of an inning getting the loss as he gave up three runs on four hits.
Three pitchers pitched for the Eagles with Teddy Lobkowicz getting the win and pitching the final four innings. D.J. Reese started the game pitching four innings.
With the loss the Pirate have 0-1 league record.

Moapa Valley beat Cheyenne 10-0 on Monday, April 2. The Pirates were led by Wrzesinski who was 3-4 with a double and two RBI’s. Coby Longman finished 3-3 with a double.
Luke Bennett pitched a three hitter striking out seven batters.

The Pirates scored two runs in the first and four runs in the second. Single runs in the third and fourth then two more runs in the fifth finished the game 10-0.

Wednesday’s game was a Pirate home game against Desert Pines, the only team in the sunset with a winning record. The Jaguars are also led by a pitcher who struck out eight Pirates in six and two-third innings, Steven Laureano.

Laureano was also 3-3 from the plate with three RBI’s. Salvador Becarra was 3-4 hitting a double and scoring an RBI. Raymond Minero finished with two hits in four at-bats scoring two runs and hitting in an RBI. Desert Pines scored twice in the second inning, a run in the sixth and three runs in the seventh. They finished with eleven hits.

Wrzesinksi had three hits for Moapa Valley while Coby Longman and Gannon Hymas each had a hit for the Pirates.

Moapa Valley will travel to Chaparral on Wednesday. Del Sol is 6-7 this season and will play the Pirates in their first league game. Chaparral has the best record with a 16-1 league record. The Cowboys only loss was their first game of the season against Clark 5-4. They have won sixteen in a row.
