Pirates Beat Chap and Del Sol, Then Fall To Eagles

The Moapa Valley High School Baseball team travelled to Del Sol on Monday, April23, where they had an easy time with the Dragons; beating them 24-0. Coby Longman pitched a three inning no hitter.
The Pirates started by batting around the line-up as they scored nine runs in the first inning. Luke Bennett led the offense as he smashed a grand slam and pounded in eight RBI’s. He finished four for five from the plate.

Bennett was not the only Pirate to have a good day at the plate as Chase Guesman finished also with a four for five day and pounded in four RBI’s himself. Payton McDermott was three for four with a double.

Then on Wednesday, the Pirates hosted the Chaparral Cowboys and came away with a 7-0 win. This time it was Chase Hadley, who pitched a five hit shutout of the Cowboys.

Earlier in the season, Chaparral had beaten the Pirates at Chaparral. But this time, Hadley struck out seven in his complete game performance. Guesman tripled in the fifth inning driving in an RBI in a five run fifth inning. Hunter Wrzesinksi, Bennett, McDermott, Hadley and Coby Longman each drove in runs.

The Pirates scored a run in the first inning to take an early lead. The seventh inning they added another run from a little insurance.

Rodney Elosegui and Jacob Mauro each had two hits for the Cowboys; Mauro hitting a double.
On Friday, the Pirates hosted Boulder City. This time they fell short as the Eagles beat the Pirates 4-1. The Eagles are still atop the Sunrise League.

Boulder City scored a run in the first inning for an early lead. Moapa Valley tied the game when a Hunter Wrzesinksi double brought in a run.
Boulder City scored one run in the top of the third to regain the lead, then added a couple of more in the fourth. The Eagles held on for the win.
Moapa Valley finished with six hits.

Moapa Valley will host its final home league game on Wednesday when they play SECTA on senior night. The last regular season game will be held on Friday against SLAM in Las Vegas.

The Pirates are currently in fourth place a need to win one game this week to qualify for the playoffs. Go Pirates!
