3A Baseball – South
Boulder City
We may as well start with the regional champions. Boulder City has won the last three regional tournaments. The Eagles have also won the last two state championships and hAave built momentum for a third straight state title.
Last week the Eagles started by beating Mojave 20-5 in four innings. Mojave scored three runs in the first inning then two more in the third to trail 9-5 headed into the bottom of the third.
Boulder City exploded for nine runs in the third. They added two in the bottom of the fourth for the final score.

Game two had the Eagles hosting Chaparral using a seven run first inning. The Cowboys came nearly all the way back with three runs in the top of the fourth and four in the top of the fifth to lose 9-8.
With the win the Eagles hosted Pahrump, the top seed from the Sunset. Pahrump scored single runs in the top of the second, third and fifth innings for a four to zero lead headed into the bottom of the seventh. But the Eagles scored four runs to win the game. DJ Reese double home two runs then Matthew Fairchild tied the game with a bases loaded walk. Reese advanced to third base and scored when the Chaparral pitcher threw a ball his catcher couldn’t handle. That was the winning run.

The win gave the Eagles their ticket to the state tournament and into the regional championship game.
On Saturday the Eagles hosted the Trojans for the title. Pahrump needed to beat the eagles twice to win the southern region. It did not happen as the Eagles beat the Trojans 8-2.
Pahrump Valley scored the first run in the top of the first. Boulder City responded with three runs in the bottom half of the first and never trailed again.

Boulder City added two runs in the bottom of the fifth and three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Trojans scored their final run in the fifth inning.
Pahrump will represent the south as the second seed in the state tournament.
With the win the Eagles will be the top seed from the south and will play Tahoe Truckee in the first round of the state tournament in Reno.

Virgin Valley
The Bulldogs made their first regional appearance since 2010.The last time they won the state title the last of three in a row.
The Dawgs started the tournament with a 3-1 win at home against Western. Virgin Valley scored a run in the first, second and sixth innings. Western scored their only run in the top of the first for an early lead.
The second game the Bulldogs travelled to Pahrump and were beaten by the Trojans 6-5, falling into the loser’s bracket. The Bulldogs had held a 5-1 lead headed into the bottom of the fifth inning. That’s when the Trojans scored five runs for the win.

In the losers bracket the Dawgs played Desert Pines in Mesquite. They shut out the Jaguars 15-0 with a one hitter thrown by Dillan Fuqua. Cade Anderson and Aiden Woods each drove in three RBI’s for Virgin Valley.

The tournament moved to Boulder City with a date against Chaparral. Virgin Valley had a big 9-4 lead after they scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth. Chaparral scored three runs in the top of the sixth falling two runs short and ending the season.
It was later in the second game of their day that the Bulldogs ended their season. Virgin Valley lost to Pahrump 9-7.

It had looked real good for the Dawgs early as they scored seven runs in the first four innings. But Pahrump scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the bottom of the sixth. They then held the Dawgs scoreless the final two innings for a ticket to Reno this week.

Chaparral
The Cowboys beat Desert Pines in the first round of the regional tournament, 7-5. Chaparral scored two runs on the first, two more in the sixth and three in the seventh. Desert Pines tied the game in the bottom of the sixth with four runs.
Between the two losses for the Cowboys they beat SECTA 8-7. Chaparral scored six runs total in the first and second innings for a 6-1 lead. SECTA tied the game with three runs in the fifth and three in the seventh.

3A Baseball – North
The northern regional tournament was held in Fallon at Churchill County High School.
Elko came in as the top seed with Churchill County the second seed. The fourth seed South Tahoe Vikings lost in the first round to the fifth-seeded Dayton Dust Devils 7-3. Tahoe Truckee was the third seed who played sixth seeded Spring Creek. The Truckee Wolverines beat Spring Creek 6-3.
The second-round games saw Truckee upset the host school 3-2 and the top seed Elko beat Dayton 9-8.
Elko went on to beat Truckee 6-2 to win the northern regional title. Elko will be the top seed from the north while Truckee will be the second seed.
In the state tournament Boulder City will play Truckee while Pahrump Valley will Elko.

3A Softball – South
Boulder City
The Eagles started the regional tournament with a 19-0 win over Western. Boulder City scored twelve runs in the first inning and seven more runs in the second for the three-inning win. Western finished the regular season as the fourth seed but moved up a seed when Cheyenne reported they had played with an ineligible player all year long forcing them to forfeit their games. Desert Pines moved to the fourth seed from not being in the tournament.

The win advanced the Eagles into a matchup with the top seed in the Sunset: Pahrump Valley. The Eagles scored five runs in the first inning, three in the fourth, four runs in the sixth and three runs in the seventh for a 15-3 win. Pahrump committed twelve errors in the game helping the Eagles.
Boulder City advanced to the regional title game after a win in Moapa Valley to play the Trojans again. This time the Eagles won 8-2 as both teams advanced to the state tournament. The Eagles will play as the top seed from the south and will play Lowry in the first round.
Pahrump Valley will play the top seed Fallon. The state tournament will be played at Reno High School.
Virgin Valley

Virgin Valley was the third seed in the Sunrise. They travelled to Mojave for the first-round game and were beaten 7-4. The Bulldogs had a 3-0 lead until the third inning when the Rattlers scored six runs for a 6-3 lead.

Savanah Price and Taylor Barnum each doubled for Virgin Valley and driving in a run.
The Bulldogs’ second game was played against Desert Pines and was easy. The Bulldogs beat the Jaguars 13-3 in six innings. The Dawgs scored eight runs in the bottom of the first to build a lead. Jessica Barnum tripled and drove in three RBI’s.
But the Bulldog season ended next with an 18-5 loss to the Pahrump Valley The Trojans scored 3 runs in the first, four in the second, six in the third and five in the fourth to dominate the Dawgs.

Chaparral
The Cowboys lost their first-round game to Pahrump Valley 3-1. The Trojans scored their first two runs in the first inning and added the third run in the third inning. The second-round game 13-11 win for Chaparral.
Their final game of the season was against Mojave a 12-9 loss. Mojave won the game with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

3A Softball – North
Fernley was the top seed in the north with Lowry the second seed after the regular season.
In the first round of the northern tournament, fourth seeded Dayton beat fifth seeded Elko 8-7. Third seeded Churchill County beat sixth seeded Spring Creek 16-0.
The second round had Fernley beat Dayton 12-3 and Churchill County upset Lowry 20-10. Churchill County then upset Fernley for the Northern title 7-5.

In the state tournament Churchill County will play Pahrump Valley while Boulder City will play Fernley.
