Moapa Valley Progress
The Moapa Valley High School Class of 2018 has had some memorable moments. One of those occurred at the Ron Dalley Theatre on Thursday, May 3. Sadly this will likely be most of the seniors last performance at Moapa Valley High School.
The Moapa Valley Talent show is part of the traditional M-week festivities. At last week’s show, eight acts took the stage, giving fellow students and parents a very entertaining evening. This years host were Shelbi Walker and Dannika Gordon.
The night kicked off with Blakey and Zachary Anderson performing the song “I’m Feeling Good,” originally sung by Nina Simone. With Zachary playing the tune on the piano, Blakey showed off her amazing vocal talents. Both of the young performers did a wonderful job singing such a classic song with a new twist.
The next act would bring the audience a complete switch in moods to laughing so hard they could barely breathe. Jurnie Crawford made her way up to the stage. Her talent that she chose to share with the audience? Stand up comedy. Jurnie overcame a couple technical difficulties with her microphone to turn in a very funny performance.
The next performance stole the show. The five girl dance group composed of Kelldan Cooper, Xochitl Friars, Erika Baldwin, Lexi Schraft, and Kianna Paul called themselves The Bellas. This group put on a fabulous routine that was well planned and orchestrated. They opened with a routine dance to the son “Price Tag” by Jessie J. They followed up with routines to various pop songs. Their talents were well received by the audience.
The show took a turn from an upbeat dance to a slow and haunting song by Virginia Proffitt. Virginia used her beautiful voice to captivate and enchant the audience.
The next act was a pair of students, Natalie and Samantha, who played a lively tune on ukuleles. These young ladies performed the song “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz. The performance was delightful and put the show on a very positive note.
The next act was Tyler Holmes playing Carrie Underwood’s song “Temporary Home” on his guitar. Tyler’s performance was incredible, a real heart-warming take on the song. Tyler made the music come to life for the audience. It was a tremendous display of talent.
The final two acts of the evening were Ethan Smedley, who’s talent was storytelling, and Emma Thompson wrapped things up with a violin performance. It was a good way to wrap up the show, both students turned in very good performances.
Student Body President Kasen Kolhoss had this to say about the show: “I am very proud of my fellow students who had the courage to get up on stage and share their many talents.”
