Moapa Valley Progress
The Moapa Valley High School Tennis teams are ready to take on another season. Both the boys and girls team are returning athletes to the court as they try to qualify for the state tournament this year.
Donna Forester stepped down as team’s head coach after last season. Taking over that spot is Gavin Coburn who will inherit teams with a good number of several returning players as well as a few beginners.
On the boy’s side Boston Baker, Anson Call, Grady Call, Slade Graham, Chase Hadley, Gavin Hadley, Roy Hoe, Luke Hauver, Hunter Kelly, Kolby May, Trevor Nelson, Adam Smedley and Yadon Wisken all are returning for another season. Chase Hadley is the top player on the boy’s team.
The girl’s team will have Amber Ables, Aubrey Aikele, Aubrey Cooper, Katelyn Garlick, Brittnee Leavitt, Kayla Lyon, Myra Mortensen, Averee Widdison and Courtney Zerkle, all returning. Aubrey Aikele is the top girls player.
“This year will be great,” said Coburn. “The boy’s and girl’s teams have a lot of returning players so there is a lot of experience. We hope that experience will translate to a good run in the postseason play.”
Moapa Valley will play a lot of good solid teams on their schedule this season. But Coburn believes that his team can compete with them. The team is confident that if they can play their best tennis they can win a league title and compete for a state title, Coburn said.
“I am excited to see what these great teams can accomplish this year,” said Coburn.
