The Moapa Valley High School Football team travelled into Las Vegas on Friday as the invited guest for the Clark Chargers’ homecoming celebration. Clark High Schooll opened in 1965.

This game had no bearing on the postseason whatsoever because it was a non-league game. Because of that a handful of Piorrate starters did not dress for the game, with the intention of healing up prior to the Hammer Game later this week in Virgin Valley.

Moapa Valley started on the move against a motivated Clark team who was hitting hard, stacking the line and blitzing. Tristan Lehman took a hand-off to the right side eventually getting to the 12-yardline. A Pirates holding call took the ball back to the 36-yard line. A Pirate procedure penalty, then a sack, forced a Pirate punt.

Clark came out throwing completing their first two passes. Then Moapa Valley had a change for an interception after a tipped ball fell to the carpet.

On the next Pirate possession, after a hard fought first down, quarterback Luke Bennett faked an option pitch, kept the ball and ran up the middle 30-yards untouched for the touchdown. Leo Rios kicked the extra point giving the Pirates a 7-0 lead. That is where the score stood at halftime.

The Pirates’ first drive of the second half resulted in the offense stalling at the Clark 10-yard line. Rios came out to kick a field goal missing the 27-yarder wide left.
The next Pirate drive ended with a fumble at the Clark 25. Clark went three and out.

With the Pirates in possession of hte ball, on the sixth play from scrimmage, Jessup Lake took the hand off up the middle untouched 13-yards for the score. Rios made the point after kick and the Pirate were up 14-0 with about eight minutes to play.

The Pirate defense played a great game in the shutout. Clark finished with 203-yards of total offense: 169 on 17-26 passing. Most of those yards came in their own end of the field.
The Pirates had 218-yards of total offense. Bennett finished with 1-14 passing for 60-yards. Lehman had 13 carries for 54-yards. Moapa Valley finished with 158-yards rushing.

This Friday, the Pirates travel to Virgin Valley for the battle of the Hammer. The Bulldogs have won the last two Hammer games. This year it is the only thing the Bulldogs can win as they have been eliminated from the playoffs with their loss to Sunrise Mountain last week. The Dawgs are wounded and will be dangerous as they have absolutely nothing to lose.

This will also be the final game of the regular season. The Pirates will have a ‘bye’ in the first round of the playoffs. They will host the second round game in two weeks.
