The Moapa Valley Parade of Homes, an old tradition that hadn’t been seen for the past twenty years, was revived on Friday, December 7. This year’s event was hosted by the Old Logandale School Historical and Cultural Society (OLSHACS).

“Several years ago, the Moapa Valley Art Guild hosted this event, and many people showed an interest in having the event again,” said OLSHACS Board member Robin Maughan. “So, we thought, why not? It is fun to see all the decorations.”

Six local homes were chosen as holiday showcase homes for the tour. Those participating in the tour could visit the homes in any order.

Paula Pulsipher’s Logandale home provided a traditional Christmas look. Dozens of poinsettias filled the room, along with statues of carolers, gingerbread people, and a singing-dancing Santa by the tree.

The home of Michele Askeroth was decorated with a vintage feel. Forty-five stockings lined a wall, each representing a child, in-law, and grandchild. The Santa mug collection was also a highlight of the home.
“I love vintage,” remarked Askeroth. “I like to decorate and craft. The home is the best canvas to be creative.”

Maughan’s own home was also part of the tour. It displayed an impressive collection of nativity scenes. There is plush, for the little ones to enjoy, fabric, paper-rolled, and many more. Her front room has a lovely holiday village display as well as another nativity collection.

A very cute touch for the evening was a phone directly tied to the North Pole. All a child or adult needed do was pick up the receiver to be connected straight to Santa himself.

Robin also has several nutcrackers and more quilts than a person can count. It was a very cozy-feeling Christmas home.

The cutest little elf welcomed guests at the home of Lacey Jones. Taytum Jones, Lacey’s daughter, was so excited to have people visit that she insisted on changing into her elf pajamas to greet people.
Lacey said her favorite part of Christmas is spending time with family. She talked about her family’s Christmas morning tradition of eating a breakfast of Danish pancakes.

The home of Camille Leavitt provided a traditional feel. Two beautiful Christmas trees and several other decorations dotted the rooms. Blues, pinks, and silvers filled this home giving it a warm feeling throughout.

Camille jokingly remarked that the trees are beautiful, but all the glass ornaments are up high and the shatterproof ones are down low where little hands can’t hurt anything.

The final stop was at the home of Dave and Laura Robison. They have a wonderful collection of holiday village pieces. This beautiful village filled an entire room. Even the kitchen cupboards were wrapped as presents and the smell of fresh popcorn wafted through the home. There was a beautiful tribute wall to Jesus as well as a very sweet nativity in front of the fireplace.

One thing was true of every home visited. It didn’t matter; big or small, vintage or traditional; each home was perfect for the person who decorated it.
