Moapa Valley Progress

Southern 3A – Sunrise
Boulder City
The Eagles were busy during Christmas break. They travelled to southern California for their annual Christmas tournament in Orange County.
The Eagles finish 3-1 and were the tournament runner-up when they lost the championship game to La Habra 67-55.
Derrick Thomas, Karson Bailey and Ethan Speaker lead the Eagles in the tournament as they each scored in double figures.
Right now the Eagles are 11-3 overall; ready to start league play this week. The Eagles start on Friday in Pahrump

Chaparral
The Cowboys were in the Las Vegas Prep Classic where they finished with a 2-2 record winning the final two games of the tournament.
They started against Cypress California with a 68-53 loss. The game was tied after the first quarter 16-16. The next three quarters watch Cypress slowly pull away with a 17-12 second quarter, 16-13 third quarter and a 19-12 fourth quarter.

Their second game was against Las Vegas High School where the Wildcats beat the Cowboys 76-69. The Cowboys started this game with a 17-16 first quarter, then took control of the game in the second quarter with an 18-8 run for an eleven-point lead. The Wildcats then got hot. The game turned into a fast running display as Las Vegas cut the Cowboy lead to five with a 24-18 run. It continued in the fourth quarter with Vegas outscoring Chaparral 28-16 for the win.

The Cowboys dominated the Western Warriors in the third game of the tournament with a 67-35 blow out. Chaparral built a 23-6 lead in the first quarter and coasted from there.
In their fourth and final game the Cowboys beat the Basic Wolves 61-41. The Cowboys started the game with a 18-9 first quarter and a 35-20 halftime lead.
The Cowboys will host both Pahrump and Legacy this week. They are 4-5 overall so far this season.

Sky Pointe
The Eagles played in the Vegas Invitational and were beaten in all four games. Bonanza beat them 88-30. Spring Mountain beat them in a close one 67-63. Moapa Valley beat them 82-39 and Buckley California won the final 59-18. The Eagles do not have a game scheduled this week.

Sunrise Mountain
The Miners played one game during the break, a 52-48 win over Pahrump Valley in Pahrump. The Miners were a 21-7 first-quarter leader then went cold in the second quarter. Pahrump Valley cut the lead to 28-21 with a 14-6 run. The Miners are 5-6 overall. The Miners will host the Valley Vikings this week.

Virgin Valley
The Bulldogs took Christmas break off. They will travel to Moapa Valley this Friday night for the first game of the league season.

Southern 3A – Sunset
Del Sol
The Dragons played in two tournaments during the break.
The first was the Tarkanian Classic. They were 2-2 in this tournament with a loss against Ambridge Penn, 56-50. They lost the second game to Spanish Fork Utah, 52-50. This one was close the whole game. In the third game the Dragons beat Juneau-Douglas Alaska 66-57. In the final game of the tournament the Dragons beat Edge School from Canada 57-43.
The second tournament was in southern California where the Dragons were 0-4. The losses were against Whitney California 67-55, Thousand Oaks 51-22, Downey 51-49 and La Quinta 51-46. The Dragons are 9-6 overall and 1-0 in league play.

Democracy Prep
The Blue Knights played in the Tarkanian Classic and were 1-2 with a win in the first game against Maranatha California 58-50. The Blue Knights outscored their opponents by four points in each half.
In the second game the Blue Knights lost to Rangeview Colorado 73-44. Rangeview held a 30-22 lead at halftime.
The Knights finished with a 79-72 loss to Spring Valley. They grabbed a ten-point 37-27 lead by halftime. Spring Valley tied the game and sent it into overtime with a 33-23 second half. Spring Valley won the overtime period 19-12 to win the game.
They will host Western and Somerset Losee this week in league game then play Bonita Vista California Saturday at Durango. The Blue Knights are 7-4 overall and 1-0 in league play.

Mojave
The Rattlers are 8-6 overall and 1-1 in league play. They played over the break in the Kiwanis Invitational in Southern California, finishing with a 1-3 record. They also played in the Tarkanian Classic where they finished 4-0.
In Vegas they beat Spanish Fork 60-59. Spanish Fork held a 28-19 lead at halftime, Mojave tied the game and sent it into overtime with a 34-25 second half. They beat the Dons outscoring them 7-6 in overtime.

In the second game they beat Ambridge 81-63. Mojave then beat Shadow Ridge in the third game 64-57. The fourth game of the tournament for the Rattlers was a 58-57 win.
In Southern California Mojave pounded Rio Mesa 82-32. In the second game they lost to Crespi California 70-62. The Rattlers lost to St Bonaventure 76-71 then to Agoura California 66-58.
The Rattlers will host Del Sol and Elko this week.

Valley
The Vikings have won just one game this year and they sit with a 1-11 record overall and 1-1 in league play.
They lost four games at the Tarkanian Classic: A 55-44 loss to Sheldon Kentucky, 53-52 to Basic, 48-41 to Edge School of Canada and 61-52 to Juneau-Douglas.
They will travel to Somerset-Losee and Sunrise Mountain this week.

Pahrump Valley
The Trojans are 4-8 overall and 0-1 in league play. The Trojans played in the Vegas Invitational where they were 2-2 in the tournament. They started against the host school Mountain View and beat them 58-28. They lost to Buckley California 62-40 then to Capistrano Valley Christian from California 71-40. In the final game of the tournament for the Trojans they beat Nuview Bridge 63-55.

Western
The Warriors are 2-11 overall and 0-1 in league play. They played in both the Tarkanian classic and the Las Vegas Prep Championship. They finished with a 1-7 record. The lone win came in the second game of the Tarkanian Classic over Juneau-Douglas 48-47. They were beat by Layton Christian from Salt Lake City, 62-45; Spanish Fork 57-23; and North Eugene Oregon 59-48.
Tampa Catholic from Florida beat Western 76-52 in the first round of the Las Vegas Prep Championship, They lost to Spring Valley 54-49, Chaparral 57-36 and Mountain View Utah 55-47.
