The Moapa Valley High School Baseball team started last week on Monday, March 11 at Western High School where they crushed the Warriors 19-0, ending in three innings under the mercy rule. The mercy rule ends a game when a team is 15 runs ahead after the third inning.
Coby Longman led the Pirates on offense by going 2-3 from the plate singling in the first and hitting a homerun in the third, driving in four RBI’s.
It was in the top of the third that Moapa Valley scored 10 runs as Gannon Hymus, Luke Bennett and Austin Heiselbetz each walked. Hunter Wrzesinski hit a single before Longman’s homerun.
Chase hadley pitched two innings allowing just one hit and striking out one in the game. Hadley also had two hits in the game.
The lone hit for Western was by Adoris Cherry who had a double in the second inning.
Rylan Evans had a hit and drove home 3 RBI’s. Gavin Hadley drove in 4 RBI’s on two hits. Bennett drove in 2 RBI’s as well as Payton McDermott on one hit.
Moapa Valley finished with 10 hits total in the game. Wrzesinski had 2 stolen bases.
On Wednesday the Pirates hosted Mojave and shut the Rattlers out 11-0. Lead off hitter Wrzesinski was 3-4 from the plate driving in a run.
Moapa Valley scored a run in the bottom of the first and 2 runs in each of the third and fourth innings. Moapa Valley had a single run in the fifth and five runs ending the game in the sixth.
Bennett drove in 3 runs while Evans and both Hadley drove in 2 runs each.
Mojave had 4 hits in the game off Bennett who pitched all six innings striking out 10 and walking none.
The Pirates will travel to Democracy Prep on Wednesday and Del Sol Friday.
