“The Loop at Moapa Valley” To Be Held Saturday

The first annual “The Loop at Moapa Valley” family bicycle event will take place on Saturday, March 23 from 10 am to 6 pm. The free event is being organized by the Moapa Valley Revitalization Project to showcase the richness and diversity of the Moapa Valley to families from neighboring urban areas in the region. It also aims to promote tourism and local economic development.

“The Loop” will consist of a 19 mile route circling the lower Moapa Valley communities mainly along side roads. On the route will be local “stops” featuring artists, businesses and organizations offering a Moapa Valley experience at each one.

Visitors are invited to park their cars at the Clark County Fairgrounds or at Overton Lin’s Marketplace to ride The Loop. Of course, local families can start the ride anywhere the route passes near their homes.

The event is not a bike race. Rather as event organizer Jean Gottschalk likes to point out, “it is the opposite of a race.”
“There is no specific start or finish line and no particular direction in which to ride The Loop,” Gottschalk said.

The route takes bikers along green pastures, near the Muddy River, up on the bench, through downtown Overton and passes by few residential neighborhoods.
“The idea is for the entire family to take their time and ride slowly, taking in the scenery, and have a great time outdoors,” Gottshalk added.

Stops along the way will include Quail Hollow Farms who will operate a farmstand; the Equus ranch offering $5 horse rides; the Ozaki family selling local honey and showing a working beehive; the Overton Fire Station showing some of their fire trucks for kids to climb into; a High School rodeo at the fairgrounds; cow sorting at Ag Farm Ranch; the Old Logandale School museum, local realtors who will educate visitors on local real estate and the Lake Mead Baptist Church. DR Horton will be showing home models at their Valley Heights community. The Inside Scoop in overton will offer curbside specials. Overton NAPA auto parts will offer free bicycle chain greasing. The 4H will show small farm animals and ozobots.

Several local artists and craftspeople will also operate stops and sell locally made soaps, candles, jewelry and more.

Xtreme Stitch in downtown Overton will be making a limited edition shirt for the event for sale for $10. Their store will also become a stop for the occasion. A booth will be set-up outside the store where riders can meet MVRP President, Mary Kaye Washburn.

There is still time to register to operate a stop along the route. This can be done at www.theloopatmoapavalley.com. The site also includes a full map of the whole route and all of its stops.

Volunteers are still needed to help with safety at critical intersections during the event. Those interested in volunteering may also go to the event website to sign up to help in 4 hour shifts.
