The Nevada Small Business Development Center is presenting two free small business workshops coming to Mesquite the week of Sept. 30-Oct. 4.
The Business of Art class will be held at the Mesquite Fine Arts Center Sept. 30-Oct. 2 from 4-6 p.m. This session aims to help artists, hobbyists and creative individuals turn their talent or hobby into a small business. For six hours (over three afternoons) hands-on instruction will be given to learn about turning art into a profit. Topics to be covered in this workshop are, Intro to Business Basics, Opportunity Recognition, Using Social Media to Sell Your Art, Why Artists Need Websites and Pricing Your Art for Profit/Break-Even Analysis.
The Small Business Start Smart workshop will be on Oct. 3 from 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. at the Mesquite Library community room. Anyone who is considering starting their own business is encouraged to attend and learn critical first-step basics that will save both money and time. The workshop will help improve chances of success for those who are looking to create a job for themselves, turn a hobby into a revenue stream or open a retail site. Attendees will also discover who the local experts are and what services are available. Follow up one-on-one counseling appointments are available to all who attend, at no cost.
Topics to be covered for this workshop include Common Pitfalls for Business Owners, Business Owner Pillars of Responsibility, Market & Industry Info and Research, Sections of a Business Plan, Financial Statements, Compliance/legal Issues and How and Where you Can Get Funding for your Business.
