Moapa Valley Progress
It was an early morning for local Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts on Saturday, Nov. 16. Scouts fanned out throughout the Moapa Valley community collecting donations from every doorstep where they found food items and the recognizable yellow “Scouting for Food” tag.
This annual even seeks to replenish charitable food bank supplies just before the holidays. Usually, all donations are brought to the Cappalappa Family Resource Center food bank. But this year, the small-town resource had been so overwhelmed with generous food donations of other recent community food drives that there was no space to put anything more.
That didn’t bother the scouts though. They went forward with their annual tradition filling more than 80 boxes of food to go to the Salvation Army food banks.
The scouts spent the morning gathering the food from local neighborhoods. All of these donations were brought to the Pioneer Pavilion just west of the Hinckley building of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Logandale. There over 20 volunteers were waiting to sort the cans and boxed goods.
Among these volunteers were members of the Church’s seminary youth council.
“I love to serve this holiday season to remember how much people have served me and to give back to the community,” said council member Abigail Durstetler.
Local Boy Scouts leaders would like to thank all the people who donated food as well as all the volunteers who came to help with the drive.
