The Moapa Valley Chamber of Commerce kicked off the new decade with a Roaring 20’s Mixer and Dance held on Saturday night, Jan. 18 at the Old Overton Gym.

Chamber members came to this year’s annual event dressed in garb from the 1920s. They had a raucous wild time with Rick Houston providing the music as the DJ for the evening.

In a brief membership meeting, the 2020 Chamber Board of Directors was announced.

Serving a second term as Chamber President is Vanette Christensen, a retired law enforcement sergeant who now co-owns Xtreme Stitch & Print in Overton with her husband Gary.

“My mission and focus as President in 2020 is to see increased membership to the Chamber while working to build business relationships that benefit and prosper our members and our community as a whole.”

New to the chamber board, Candice Stevens will be serving as the 2020 vice president. Stevens is the owner of Number Cruncher Tax Preparation and Services.

Another newcomer to the board, Kasen Kolhoss, will serve as secretary. Kolhoss is a real estate sales agent at Clea’s Moapa Valley Realty.

The position of Treasurer will be filled by Bret Staley, owner of Moapa Valley Chiropractic. Staley has served on the Chamber Board almost continuously since 1993, with a break of only one year to satisfy more recently instituted term limit policies.

Overseeing marketing for the chamber will be new board member Lori Houston, also a real estate agent for Clea’s Moapa Valley Realty.

Continuing on the Board in charge of Donations is Lois Hall of Cal’s Repair & U-Haul.

And rounding out the board will be first time board member Amy Johnson, who also provides great customer service at MVT.

Christensen extended an invitation to all local business owners, including small home-based business owners, to join the chamber and receive its benefits.

“We want to re-establish the chamber as a network of local businesses that really support each other,” Christensen said. “When we help each other, when we do business together, we build each other up. And that benefits the whole community.”

Christensen also expressed appreciation to outgoing board members Pam Duvall of Washington Federal and Jeff Jones of Town and Country Auto, both of whom had reached their term limits; and also to former board member Lisa Hanks of Simplot Silica who has recently retired.
