The Cause Behind The MV Rotary Yard Sale

By VERNON ROBISON

Moapa Valley Progress

Members of the Moapa Valley Rotary Club are starting preparations for their big annual Yard Sale fundraiser that will take place in the Lin’s Market parking lot on March 13-14.

All proceeds of the Rotary Yard Sale go toward scholarships for graduating Moapa Valley High School students. Last year the MV Rotary gave $2,000 scholarships to four different MVHS graduates: a total of $8,000 in scholarships.

“The Rotary scholarships have been awarded every year for as long as most of us can remember,” said Rotarian Suzy Bennett, this year’s Yard Sale coordinator. “It has made a huge difference to countless students over the years.”

Bennett wants to continue that tradition. In fact, she is looking to take this long-standing annual tradition to the next level. So her goal is to amp up this year’s annual Yard Sale.

Bennett is putting out a call to all local residents over the next few weeks. She is inviting those who have lightly-used items that are no longer wanted and would bring in funds at the Yard Sale, to please donate them to Rotary to forward this great cause.

“It’s the traditional time for folks to start in on some early spring cleaning,” Bennett said. “So if you find items that you’d like to donate, we would be happy to arrange a time to come and pick them up. That’s about as convenient as it gets, right?”

Bennett does suggest that potential donors screen their donated items to make sure that items are ‘sellable.’
“We just ask people to remember the purpose of the Yard Sale is to raise money for local kids,” Bennett said. “So please make sure that, whatever you donate, we can raise funds with it.”

Bennett was thankful for past year’s donations, as well as significant contributions that have already been made for the upcoming event.
“This community has always been so generous to us over the years,” Bennett said. “We so appreciate that.”

To arrange for Rotarians to come by and pick up donations for the Yard Sale, contact Bennett at 702-379-7974 or MV Rotary President Dana Utgard at dana@utgard.us.
