Local political party organizations have been mobilizing for the coming general election push. They have gotten into position to assist their candidates during the busy campaign season.
The Mesquite Republican Women organization has opened its campaign office at 561 W. Mesquite Blvd in Sun Valley. The office is open six days a week, Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm.
Mesquite resident Bobbie Green, who has helped coordinate the opening of the campaign office for Mesquite Republican Women, said that volunteers would be there to help local residents with election matters and campaign issues.
“We will have people there who can provide information and answer questions for anybody who needs help,” Green said.
Area residents can visit the office to register to vote. They can also sign up to help with local campaigning efforts or with political party organization, she said.
In addition, all Republican candidate campaign materials will be available at the office including yard signs, bumper stickers and more.
The Mesquite 2 Moapa Democrat organization has taken a different approach. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, they have chosen to go virtual.
“We decided not to open an office due to COVID-19,” said Mesquite 2 Moapa organizer Elaine Hurd. “Instead we are holding online ZOOM meetings every Wednesday at 6:00 pm.”
Hurd said that this has worked well in organizing and energizing area Democrats.
“We have been able to get speakers, through that online platform, that we might never have seen here otherwise,” Hurd said.
One of the more recent of these was Nevada Lieutenant Governor Kate Marshall. In addition, the group was able to do online interviews with 21 different judicial candidates.
Hurd said that the group has plans to hear from both of Nevada’s U.S. Senators in the coming weeks.
