Scout Organizes School Supply Drive

Logandale Boy Scout Ethan Stankosky has organized a school supplies drive for southern Nevada kids in need. The drive will be his Eagle Project to earn his Eagle rank.

Working together with Project 150 in Las Vegas, Ethan has placed three drop-off boxes around the valley for anyone interested in donating school supplies.

The first box is located inside of Lin’s Market in Overton. The other two are placed outside chapels of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. One is at the Logandale Stake Center of the Church located at 2555 N. St. Joseph Street. The other is found outside the Logandale Chapel on Moapa Blvd at 3245 N. Moapa Valley Blvd.

Stankosky said he checks the drop-off boxes at least once each day to ensure safe collection of all the donated items.
Ethan will be accepting donations up until Friday, Aug. 7.

All donations will go to Project 150 to help less-fortunate students with the supplies they will need for the school year.

This not only includes basic school supplies like pencils and paper but extends to basic necessities such as toothbrushes and new underwear.

He’ll also be accepting cash donations though the Venmo app to his account @boneski for safe and efficient donations.
“There’s no specific goal,” Stankosky said. “I really just want to help kids who don’t have access to school supplies.”

The Eagle rank is one of the most prestigious awards a Boy Scout can earn. It is recognized and valued in academic and professional environments beyond high school. The program requires a great deal of career training and other efforts gained through earning merit badges. To achieve the rank of Eagle, a total of 21 merit badges must be earned,

Another requirement for Eagle is to complete an approved community service project.
“I was originally planning something else, but COVID happened,” Ethan said.

Remembering a recent food drive through Project 150, Ethan reached out to the program and was able to plan another worthy project.

Ethan is fifteen years old and will be a sophomore at Moapa Valley High School this year.
